It seems reasonable as a result for close range. And note no 25mm or MG hits either. I would think you would be pleased by this sort of outcome. It is very much in the correct range.

Your sub sighting reports look like the new beta mod. I have never seen anything like this in UV or WITP, stock or CHS. But such results ARE being posted on the limited test thread. And this problem is going to be addressed.

Note that the web page has an interesting table near the end - have a look. It lists M2 Ball AP ammo as piercing 5.1mm of Armor Plate (face-hardened) at 1,640 yards (1,500 meters). "Armor Plate (homogenous)" I take to be the same as a steel hull.

Actually, face-hardened armor plate is a great deal tougher than ordinary steel used to plate a hull. You must multiply that 5.1mm of Armor Plate by some factor to get the actual thickness of non-armor steel the same round could penetrate. 2mm and 3mm thick non-armor steel hulls are not going to be useful against machine guns - except they obscure the enemy's ability to see you and aim for your body! 10mm is not going to save you from .50 cal ball. Again - check out discussions of tankette/APC and related armor - and what was found to be inadequate. Even the US airborne tank (M-32?) was found inadequate - at several times that.

IF you are siding with this position (Ron), it makes sense you are unhappy with the model. But I am forced to side with the designers (in spite of my fame for being critical of the design at points). This is EXACTLY correct. Bigger ships with bigger weapons are very dangerous to smaller ships! And MORE likely to hit too - those big rangefinders are more accurate - and at any given range bigger guns are more accurate than smaller ones. [Smaller error in measuring range + smaller error in shot dispersion = advantage to the bigger ship with the bigger gun = correct]. If you do not study the actual technology your expectations will be upset over and over when it is inapproprate. SOMETIMES a smaller ship can take amazing punishment - particularly if the enemy uses the wrong ammunition. [AP will go through a destroyer, and if it hits nothing vital, all you get is a hole, which if high enough does not even let in water. When big ships THINK they face CLs, they may pick the wrong shells - see Leyte Gulf. HE - on the other hand - will explode and devistate the destroyer. In fact, a miss by HE is worse than a direct hit - the overpressure may burst the seams for many yards - and sink the target outright in a few minutes.] Until you come to understand the many technical factors, you are going to be confused by perfectly reasonable results - done by designers who did a good job recreating the outcomes of real engagements. I don't think this protection model is ideal - but it is not bad. If you want a more robust target, mess with durability ratings, not armor.

Looking at your combat Reports Ron, I notice that the DDs with 50+ MG hits are ablaze (as they should be), but except for the one instance of a sinking, all the major sinkings were with bombs. I'm afraid I just don't see the actual problem, or at least any problem that adding armor and throwing out the model would fix.

Seeing those tests (and very good ones IMO) to me say that the model is fine, and doesn't need more armor.

This sentence is a note to the data I cut and pasted in the area above in the post, not to the preceding sentence. If you look at the table cited on the web page referenced, there is a separate column that references 'Armor Plate (homogenous)'. While the data I pasted for the various ammo types simply said 'Armor Penetration', it is clear those figures refer to homogenous armor plate.

These two sentences, especially the second one:

Pulls in actual data from the column of the data dealing with face-hardened armor plate. You will note that at 1,640 yards the round penetrates 5.1mm of face-hardened armor plate, whereas another poster previously claimed that the round could only penetrate an unarmored hull at less than 200 yards.

I was unable to cut and paste the table without it being scrambled, so I re-typed a critical part of it.

I'm not done yet. Need to see what MGs do on their own and I will post pics of ships when I get the bombs to stop falling.[:)] I removed the bombs from the aircraft but suspect I have to go through each unit and re insert the new aircraft to actually remove the bombs from the loadouts. Then we will see.

Anyone think the number of bomb hits is rather, shall we say, excessive? These guys would put the Damn Busters out of business.[X(]

I must say the incidience of magazine explosions was indeed cut down effectively from the first magazine explosion model. The two DDs I witnessed explode and sink were with the older build (4%?). Still lots of critical hit messages but this is not unreasonable (make more sense if the explosions occurred hitting weapon mounts but I guess it comes out in the wash).

Not at all Sir but I must admit I was thinking "ships" not craft. To my mind this excludes landing craft, fishing boats/trawlers, coastal and harbor craft, etc.

I am asking for documentation and would be very happy to receive some.

The model is pretty good. It considers the aggressiveness of the commander, the chance contact is lost, lots of things. That this can happen occasionally is actually good IMHO.
