One thing I've found when playing against myself (in other games) is that you tend to avoid catastrophic battles due to unconsciously knowing what the "other" guy is up to. That might explain why the loss rate is not higher.
That would explain it. And it fits with what I do when I play with myself as opponent. I cannot surprise myself strategically this way. Perhaps the Soviets should do something unexpected....like go on the offensive NOW?
