JJ should have left a rearguard at La Foa. They knew there was some kind of unit at Koumac.

If we can get some serious surface firepower at Noumea we can perhaps decrease the effectiveness of the bombardments. I think they are having to shuttle back and forth to Rabaul..which is several days ride one way.

Warspite and a 22 kt USN BB are headed for Suva. 2 more pre-war BB's are at SF but needed escorts. Have to run Warspite by ALSP because that is his favorite ship. [:)]

The other BB's are at Pearl getting AAA upgrades. The earliest are about 12 days out for completion of repairs.

Yorktown just received Saratogas SBD and F4F's via at-sea transfer and will now head west and fly them off to Suva.

Turns out JJ DID leave a unit at La Foa. Most likely, the Marine Def Bn now arrived will not have the strength to displace
them. We can try a bombardment today and see what they have. The KB has disappeared Northward? They are unspotted by PBY's at Koumac or Efate.

2nd Marine Regt has to disembark heavy equipment at Noumea. They will have 100 fighters to protect them should JJ double back. A USN cruiser group will try to
reach Noumea tonight and stay on station. A Tank Bn is headed up by transport from Norfolk. A squadron of PBY's fly in to Noumea.
12 PT boats arrive Noumea tonight.

Tanna is up to 80% on runway completion.

Two USMC Bn loading up at Suva to try to make the run to N&IC.

Georgetown (the one in Malaysia) fell yesterday. 18K variously pigmented types now working in Burma.

I was Googling Warspite to get a few ship facts and that site showed up. I can't imagine how in the world that name was chosen for this line of business, what rational woman could find it? Maybe that is the attraction?

This leaves 4 different troop "convoys" within 1 nights steaming of Noumea. The runway is repaired so the SBD's come back. About 30 SBD's and 55 fighters operational.

JJ now has an escort carrier with a large convoy about 160 m E of Koumac and something else possibly headed to Koumac. KB still near Efate. Tanna grass strip is operational so fighters move in.

We are sending one lone DD and the PT boats to cover Koumac. The DD will be set to recover toward Sydney.
