I lost 4 pilots

This was somewhat of a test, P-38s can really one sweep about once per week against strong opposition so this
was to be a one time thing. They seemed to do better sweeping at 16,000 feet against his low CAP than the
P-47s did sweeping at 42,000 feet. In 2 or 3 days the P-47s will go again at around 12,000 feet and see how they
fare this time. During this replay I noted many more diving messages for me than before.

I still can not hit any ships in port even though recon shows some.
That is frustrating even though I am shooting down a lot of fighters
I am losing bombers too. I did only lose 2 pilots while losing 5 B-24D1s
over Truk. I also shot down 17 George fighters and 8 Zeros, maybe he lost
some Naval fighter pilots.

He night bombed the airfield at Shwebo, no hits and he lost 11 Helen bomber( 10 flak, 1 ops )

I lost 5 aircraft to flak and ops.

And again weather affected my air missions. My Sweeps and escorts did not show up
over Mandalay today and the B-25Cs went in alone. Losses, but not devastating.

I am struggling with my air war in Burma. I flew my size 75 P-47D25 group on a sweep of Mandalay.
They were met by 27 Ki-44-IIc Tojos. I was flying at 42,000 feet and the Tojos were at 8,000 feet
I lost 17 P-47D25s( 15 air-2-air and 2 ops) and he lost 19 Ki-44-IIcs ( 14 air-2-air and 5 ops )
I have excellent pilots in that unit. Experience varies from 76 to 88, air from 70 to 85 and def 70 to 87.
Is my problem that I am flying too high? I have no better pilots available to me. Most of these came from
TRACOM.
Here are the stats of the two aircraft models, items in red boxes are his advantages and those in green
boxes are my advantages. Note that my 59MPH higher max speed should reduce his maneuver advantage.
Any ideas? I am somewhat at a loss. I can not trade 1 to 1 for very long.

I took my only advice and flew my sweepers much lower and that works. I think
I may have actually done this before, but putting my sweepers up high is kind of
an automatic thing and I will have to break that habit.

The base is trashed, I suppose my weeks long bombing runs had something to do with that.

It looks like I captured about 60,000 - 70,000 supply at Soreabaja, but almost no fuel
The industry is well damaged and will take 50 days to repair all of it.
The oil wells are 143(47) and the refineries are 120(50) so I will be making 1,800 fuel per turn.

A lot of bombers flew today

He night bombed my LI at Soerabaja damaging 25 of them
I feel that LI is the least of the industries that are there

I flew numerous sorties against his ground troops in the hex West of Soerabaja doing a good amount of damage
I have two armored units there and they will attack tomorrow and hopefully the bombers will fly again.
More units are moving in, they will be needed at Madioen shortly.

My bombers finally flew against the ground units at Mandalay again doing a fair amount of damage, I suspect he has high forts there.
Recon shows about 70,000 troops, 667 guns and 729 AFVs there. I need to reduce that with airpower before
crossing the river. Recon also shows 7 units and I have identified 5 of them

I think they both sank.

These were all 500 lb SAP bombs. The nice thing about the SB2C series is that they can carry
a CL bomb and two wing external fuel tanks. It gives them a range of 10.

Curious turn.

I had 3 TFs with 6 AMs and 4 YMS total ordered to sweep mines at Soerabaja. There is an enemy mine symbol in the hex and I did sweep a few mines a number of turns ago.
They did not sweep any mines this turn. A SCTF of CA Atago and 5 DDs showed up in the daytime and sank all of them. But I got my revenge.

No aircraft flew in Burma due to weather, thunderstorms predicted again for tomorrow.

My bombers did fly at Java and did some good damage

His night bombers hit Loemadjang, he destroyed a C-47 on the ground and hit the airbase once and the airbase supply once.

Tjepoe flipped before combat to me.

IME, the enemy mine symbol in a hex you own is quite reliable. When it disappears, you are truly free of mines - at least in known minefields. If a sub laid a new one I don't know if you would know about it before hitting or routinely sweeping it.

I am wondering, I last swept 14 mines on August 1. The same turn he flew a naval strike mission and sank one of the minesweepers
and I directed the remaining to return to base. It was early and I thought I would not worry about sweeping the rest of the mines
until I took the base. I have had minesweepers in the hex for two turns now and no mines were swept but the mine symbol remains.
I wonder if either there were only 14 mines or after I swept 14 there was one or two left that dissipated. There was no ACM in the
port to keep the minefield from dissipating. I have sent in SCTFs and more minesweepers to see what they find.
It could also mean there are more mines but my minesweepers have not found them yet.
