Good night gents [>:][>:][>:]

This could be my last day in the office for the year. The forecast calls for 1-3 inches of snow and ice tomorrow morning. Plenty of you would laugh at that, but down here, there is very little equipment to keep the roads safe, so that's enough to cancel school. That, of course, means I need to work from home. [:)]
I'm on vacation Friday, and already planning to work from home next Monday and Tuesday before vacation the rest of the year. Can you tell I'm excited? [:D]

Outside my price range for the near future. I probably would like it, but the Eastern Front isn't a major area of interest for me so spending a big wedge like that is a no-go for the near future. Maybe one day that'll change.

You have to 'work from home' next Monday and Tuesday? Dude, that sucks. [:'(]ORIGINAL: USS America

I'm done with this whole 'work thing' for the year come Friday night.
We're supposed to get 3-6" oh, right about rush hour today. May be adviseable for me to 'work from home' starting at about 3pm...

I'm with you on this one. We are expecting 2-5" in Richmond. When people ask me why a midwesterner like me won't drive in the snow here, I tell them "It's not the snow. It's the southern drivers trying to drive in snow that I am avoiding."[:D][:D]

Wife unit taking felidae Mk. 1., Mod. 0 (our oldest model @ 20 years) in for final arrangements this evening. Thyroid mass causing increasing difficulty in breathing. Now she's (the cat) suffering and we can't have that. Kids said goodbye before my wife left.
Having a 6.5 YO who wears his emotions on his shirtsleeves saying goodbye for the final time to an old friend is awful. Ugh...[:(]
I'm sorry to hear that, Chickenboy. That's always tough, especially after 20 years.

Good Thread, it was a scary commute today. There was SO much ice out there... When I get off the train in the town where my hospital is, it's about a 15 minute walk from the station; when Mrs. McDull and I made that trip this morning, it was an <expletive deleted> ice rink! We were both all cramped up when we arrived at work, because every muscle from the neck down had to be tensed.

Yeah, well, we had ice this morning too. Much better to bust your bum than your wife's car like I did. [:@]
Spun out and hit a guard rail with the front fender. Worst part was the airbags deployed. Did you know those stink like white phosphorous with a heavy dose of sulphur?

Stu, I was there for the massive ice storm in the winter of '93-'94. 8 inches of ice accumulated on the roads. It took many days for the roads to be cleared, because it had to be done 90% by the sun. [:D] They just don't have equipment to clear the roads like in northern locations. I remember it also took about a year to clear out all of the tree debris brought down by the ice. It wasn't tree branches, but thousands of entire trees snapped in half.
We got about a half inch of snow early this morning, followed by a few hours of sleet and freezing rain. The kids were home from school and they have already announced a 2 hour delay for tomorrow, as we'll be getting some refreezing black ice tonight.
Oh oh oh! (raises hand). I've got a suggestion for a Mrs. Mynok Christmas gift!ORIGINAL: Mynok

Sorry to hear that. If the airbags deployed, your insurance co will probably total it. That might be either good or bad. Either way, you'll probably be shopping for a new car shortly. Really glad youre OK though.
Hard to imagine that considering how little damage was done otherwise. Of course, it is a 1997 model so you may very well be right. You may be right though as the insurer is your former employer.
That would be very bad, of course, since my wife loves that car. [8|]
I started my residency in PA the year after that happened. I moved there from CA thinking that it is insane for anyone to live anywhere where this sort of stuff happens. Driving on the ice is so much worse than cold weather and snow...ORIGINAL: USS America

I'm fine.
The car will survive. It's a tough little bugger. Guard rails appear to be just the right height to hit bumper only, and bumpers are...well...bumpers and designed to bump things. Radiator didn't get damaged, nor did the hood crinkle (another major cost), so we should get out pretty good. I could have driven the car home except it smelled like bilge and the the left fender was rubbing the tire a bit.
