The last two islands should fall easily now, just a matter of time.

Nice work getting Little Andaman! Banzai!

That TF might do better without Katori and Kashima, since they are so slow. I reserve them for amphibious TFs and scouting only. With the big boys they will make all other ships more vulnerable to torpedoes especially.

Thanks Obvert, they were in the invasion TF. they were split out to help stop any SCTF coming in as their support wasn't needed... it was unfortunate that this Tf, and not one of the CA DD Tf, was involved in the combat.

You have quite a cordon around the central area. Interesting that this game looks to be as much about maneuver as giant stacks rolling down the roads.

Even though that stack is in the forests you're trying to knock off South of Chunking, have you tried intensive bombing? My opponent mentioned that although it took longer, when I hit stacks in the woods it still eventually threw them into disruption and killed their supply until he was forced to retreat.

Thanks Obvert, yes we are bombing that stack every turn, don't usually report it as the bombing isn't doing a lot of damage.

Yes we used manoeuvre a lot plus a bit of deception, and the application of a fair bit of good old attrition to gain us the edge in the first place!

Our problem is we don't want to risk being overwhelmed anywhere else, so aren't freeing up the forces we really need to take the hex... plus we don't have to take it. We own most of the hex sides so can move in and out as required. It is mostly about keeping Tony amused, he gets bored easily you see and has a tendancy to want to invade places...

Behind due to work, on the other hand it has been fairly quite as Andrew slowly marches into Burma. So will do a five day update. At a conference next week so reports will again be slow.

The most interesting bit happened a few days ago in the Andamans...

Our ASW in the Indian ocean has been hitting lots of subs, they have really been thined out, but we doubt many have sunk, although five subs are showing on the sunk ships list during this period.

We have suffered no significant loss.

Burma
I'll post a screen shot, basically more US units have marched into Burma. Akyab is now a level 3 port as well. There has been no significant air combat, possibly due to bad weather. We are mainly on the defensive at the moment.

We have occupied our main defensive line in the jungle/rough terrain with a regiment at least per hex. We have three 1000AV stacks forward still.

Burma

As you can see this is shaping up to be the main effort at the moment. Andrew has diverted forces that were going to do the Amphib follow up attacks and now has them marching overland. We are well dug in, but we doubt we can stop him.

Our main line of defence will be the jungle rough below central Burma, however we are already preparing the two lines after that.

Near Bhamo he is trying to outflank us towards Lashio and force us back... we have plans... But ultimately those forces will probably retire via China. We have a fresh div dug in in the mountain passes in to China as the backstop.

Been busy with work attending a conference interstate so a bulk catch up.

All the action is in Burma, everywhere else is quiet.

Over the last 8 game days air attacks have swept backwards and forwards across Burma. The large stack of enemy units continues to grow and consists of at least the following:

We bombed it several times against heavy fighter opposition. He swept Rangoon and other bases sometimes againts heavy oppoition. Overall losses have favoured the Allies about 1.2-1.4, however we got some good hits on his forces in the open. This turn he bombed Rangoon...

As a consquence over over 50 units sitting on the other side of the river we are now pulling out of the forward bases back to the main defensive line, marked by dashes in the image below.

We almost have enough points to buy out another div from Japan which will be sent this way.

Glad you're back. In your estimation, what troop levels are required for Japan to defend Burma through 1943?

I mentioned it in your thread, we have had 6 growing to 8 div, basically 1-2 div in 3-5 forward locations and a div in reserve.

Now we are facing around 10-16 enemy divs in central Burma, we need about 10 div to defend the 3 axis they can advance on. It will be much easier for the allies to switch the axis of attack, than we can move units, as Allied Airpower will dominate and slow our movement.

We use the northern Thai base of Chiang Mai to base bombers out of alreday, and are building the trio around Raheng. Once we pull out of the central burma airfields a lot of our air power will shift to Thailand.

Loosing the central Burma Bases opens up Bangkok and Hanoi to air attack, not much we can do about it...

Sorry for the lack of updates. Andrew went on holidays for 6 weeks or so. He has been back a week and we have done a few turns, but I've been too busy to update. Will quickly try to catch up.

All the action has happened in Burma, with the rest of the map basically quite except for an occasional fighters sweep... although there has been a build up noted around Perth.

In Burma MASSES of enemy troops have moved into Central Burma. Three USMC Div and an Amphib HQ landed at Ramree Island! Basically most of the US and Australian Divs are located in central Burma.

We conducted a delaying defence and managed to get back into the jungle hexes without loosing anything of significance, while bringing forward another three Divs. We are currently holding nth of Toungoo, while building a backstop line nth of Moulmein.

He has weighted his attack on our left (yellow circle), we have managed to bluff/halt him for the moment... it is a close thing, if he fails in his first attack he will be in trouble, if we fold we will be in trouble and will have to fall back to Moulmein...



In the air we managed to savage one bomber strike, but have been savaged in the air and on the ground in return. Our pilot pools are good, losses relatively light, however we are having to convert units to Tojo to free up enough Frank. IJNAF fighter pilots are at a premium, although we are about to graduate 100 or so.

Logistically we are heavily constrained by fuel and oil, with only about 50 days of either in the home islands. We do have good tactcal stockpiles though to support fleet operations. We are basically pulling every drop of oil that is available, and only just keeping up with demand. We are flooded with resources and have shut down many convoys to limit fuel usage.

Air production is going Ok, although Frank are now very low. Heavy industry is grownig nicely and we are at 1.1 million.

Well I missjudged here, not sure if we got poor die rolls or what... wasn't expecting to loose. The good news is the units retreat to Toungoo, and are in fair condition, if we can get them back they will be batleworthy in a week.

First though these DD's did a 10 hex run in... we are unloading troops at Car Nicobar.

Yikes! This sort of thing is an argument for stacking limits, eh? The Burma front just still doesn't play "right" IMHO. Maybe stacking limits will help.
