The 2 big news of this turn are:

- I forgot to change orders for the 2E bombers pounding the 18th Division at Chittagong... And paid a heavy price, the 18th division moved one hex SE, and the 2E bombers followed to be slaughtered by LRCAP.
In total I lost:

- Second, a cruiser, and BB? TF was spotted south of Akyab, the 2 potential targets are Calcutta airbase and the tanks at Chittagong... my bet is Chittagong:


I am sending the cruiser TF (Quincy, Exeter, Birmingham + 8 DDs) on a bombardment mission to Chittagong.
I have set the TF speed to "mission" and remain on target thus I expect it to arrive after the Japanese... ideally to engage them after they have spent lots of ammo...

In any case, I consider them expendable, and with some luck they will make the Japanese TF move north where lots of Torpedo and Dive bombers will be looking for them

Aren't you worried about Ms. Nettie out of Burma to visit that CA TF?

The closest Nettie should be in either Rangoon or Pt Blair... far away, and with most close airfield already bombed/ not safe for Japanese rebasing. I am more worried about carriers really, and that is the reason why I set two P-38 squadrons on LRCAP over the cruisers... should be actually fun if Netties come without escort[;)]

And I already sent the turn... sent it yesterday actually, I have been all day thinking about it... hopefully tomorrow I will see how it went

I am hoping the enemy cruisers get into the "kill zone" I had set south of Calcutta. Lots of torpedo/ dive bomber, includes pretty much all British Swordfish, Vengeance, Albacores + Wasps' Dauntless and Avengers

IdahoNYer was right regarding Netties from Burma. I didn't believe he would send them so far north without escort cover.

Well he did [:)], and Netties came without any figthter escort [:-] Moreover they found the cruisers at Chittagong, where I had set 2 additional fighters on LRCAP

So each Nell squadron faced two P-38, one P-40K and one Hurricane squadron... around 90/3 fighter planes [X(]
The head count on each wave was:

1. 11 G3M2 AM phase --> all shot down before reaching cruiser TF
2. 22 G3M2 AM phase --> 4 shot down before reaching TF, 2 shot down by AA, 8 shot down leaving.. 14 in total

Wow!! Nicely done! Very surprised though that he didn't stage Zeros at Magwe or Prome at least - sending Netties unescorted is dangerous in Dec 41, suicide after mid '42!

With production, he still should be able to put more airframes than Allied reinforcements can assemble in Mid '42 - where is his airpower?

He might have tried. I mean, several times I have set escorts from a mid-point base and they completely failed to arrive...

Airframes won't be a problem for Japan... pilots, trained pilots might, we are playing DBB-C scenario 1 and AFAIK there are not too many pilots available

Hard to say where is his airpower, he certainly is at Pt Blair (L5) and Rangoon (L7). Last time I checked there were fighters in Akyab (L3), I bet he is also covering Prome (L4) and Magwe (L3). Recon assets are at premium now, so I can't be sure for a few more turns.

Things are really looking good for you! The results of the bombardment might look light but I think it's a great start toward beating down his units at Chittagong.

By the way, how is your game against Malagant going? I was reading his AAR.. he is certainly aggresive,

you should write from time to time, doesn't need to be a daily AAR, but an update once in a while

They also got an Op Mode - , which suggests they were not planning to defend there but to "Get Outta Dodge". [:)]

I think some, but not all LCUs were on "move" mode. I bet 9th Rf gun battalion was the one destroyed. In any case I'm very happy that two veteran divisions (5th and 48th) are getting mauled.

They're not completely cutoff. But there's no road to the next Japanese base: Imphal. Although there are some LCUs and bases in the east, there's nothing there worthy, likely no supply either. I have some troops moving there and I could send paras to grab Leo. but I am not in a hurry and shock attack would damage oil wells

I don't care about it, or maybe better to say, I just care a little. If they get damaged, I will have to spend some supply, in a place where supply might not be flowing greatly. Not a big concern, but if I can avoid it, better.
This is how things look today. Japanese Imphal is the last Japanese strong point in east Bengal

Exactly one year ago, I received the 1st turn and combat replay... lots of things have happened since, but interesting to notice that with some exceptions, the advance of the Japanese empire is very close to what was done historically

In game, the date is September 26, 1942. We have done 294 turns in this last year; a ratio of 0.805 turns per day, which is good against any standard. I hope we continued this way until the very end

The composition of that SCTF suggests a fast raiding/bombardment force. If you have not seen them in the area recently you can expect them to be fully loaded and looking for trouble.

This is the same TF that paid a visit to Calcutta some turns ago. I would say they're leaving. But I haven't been good at forecasting his naval intentions lately. Regardless, I will have mines set at diamond harbor soon

Exactly one year ago, I received the 1st turn and combat replay... lots of things have happened since, but interesting to notice that with some exceptions, the advance of the Japanese empire is very close to what was done historically
