lol... the russian singer Elena Vaenga and her back up singers often dress like that when she does Great Patriotic War remembrance shows with the Red Army, well maybe a bit tighter at the hips and sexier, but I didn't fully realize it was in fact reglementary dress during WWII

Maybe her tight dresses would be more appropriate to parachute!

hey Guys, I want to talk about the strategic plans for February onwards
the Red Army has made a remarkable recovery and was able to push hard consedering the situation.
however, the truth is that our army as remain below 4.7 million men and 49K guns since the winter despite taking "reasonable losses" by Soviet standards

to be blunt, the reason the South is seeing such success is because the Germans were very reluctant to use Motorize divisions and refuse to send out panzer divisions
not to mention keeping very high quality Infantry in the back.
coming February, that is going to change, drastically.
in one of my games , I played my winter offensive well, however as it it March, the Germans lost the 1st winter penalties and went on the offensive. he caught the red army with its pants down and the Soviet front in the South disintegrated. and I had about 5 Million men, a much stronger army then in this game.

NEVER underestimate the Germans in 1942 is what am saying.
so in February I want to stop the offensive and begging preparing for defense. It's a shame I won't be able to recapture Voronezh, but building fortifications is more important.
as for the North, I also think it has stretch the front very well! tying down many German divisions. however we should stop attacking here and spare manpower and resources to enlarge the red army.
as for the center, the Moscow front. if able, perhaps the offensive should still continue.

I have to say well played. Two opportunities excellently spotted and well taken.

I think the genesis of the pockets actually lay in the pockets we made in the south up to the final one in Voronezh in the summer. You could see the liquidation of the final pocket left the Axis forces all out of place and unready for the blizzard. Forces that could have been on the front lines digging were instead elsewhere and only arrived just before the blizzard started - so instead centre forces were stretched down to cover the sector and left broken down to single regiments covering hexes. More could have been done immediately before the blizzard to flip several rows to Axis control when no Soviet forces were there, at least delaying the Soviet blizzard offensive by a turn or two just flipping them back again. Ultimately there was neither an all out hard defence or a running strategy but the worst elements of both. Virtually every turn there was spare rail cap and rear units available to be railed in - but the decision was always to just use enough to rescue the situation that turn but not thinking of future turns. The Soviet build up of units in the area was continually faster even though it did not have to be. The mountain units were allocated by agreement of ground commanders and were left in the south - many could have been railed up to the centre to face the crisis there. The Greater Tambov pocket in particular should not have been allowed. And finally in team terms we had three different commanders controlling the forces with North and South covering for some turns. So not ideal.

I am with Lictuel here. German is a great language for philosophy and has an exactitude of meaning. If you are going to use it then use it right!

From what I have read the German High Command was completely blitzed up for most of the war so may as well have been a free drug zone.

OK here were the real first plans for the blizzard

Im thinking of plan like this, for exemple.



Where North and Central joins effort to cut off the Germans.
Troops in the black square would launch the initial assault in the direction of the black arrow. Before the assault though, troops in the red circle would have regroup in the red rectangle, and ready to push trough the hole made by black troops. Red Troops would then either continue to envelop the Germans by pursuing Green Arrow, or choose to pursue the main objective ( Moscow ) by going blue arrow.

Im thinking this would destabilize the Germans into getting attacked from a direction they wouldnt expect. Of course, this would mean that central front wouldnt have any reserve units as they were all used for the surprise offensive.

This is the type of things I want to see in the plans coming. unexpected attack direction, joint effort from different front, outside of the box thinking.

... we are playing with reduced blizzard effect and considering the state of the Red Army currently I really do not see how we can positively conduct any major break through winter offensives. Pushing the front back on a general basis is our best bet I would say, but even this I feel is very optimistic...

However, we are here to have fun. : ) Your plan looks like it, so if what you suggest above stands I will start moving troops. Just give me the go. Sorry for being a bore.

It looks promising, but I advise that an offensive south words should be opportunistic in nature. only attack for Victories, not territory. Came winter your supply situation will be bad, with it already being 19 Mp's in summer, and with out a functioning rail east of the Volga.
Besides, you can't lower your guard against the Fins just yet, any big gains in territory you make south words will have to be abandon came summer unless decently reinforced, we can't risk such an encirclement until we confirm where the Axis placed all of its mobile assets.

I like it that you want to focus on eliminating divisions. however a word of moderation, the horrible mobility in Blizzard and our lack of motorize units( with needed MP's) means that to achieve encirclement, the Germans need to be stubborn. I will do our best Boss!

I think I pick up North during this part of the campaign ... I am not stubborn [:'(] A flexible defense sacrificing space for time and blood ....

A lot of space to back off for the Germans. That plan has great intention, but I agree with Mamluke. I wonder if those troops should have been employed in the Tambov area instead to increase the pressure and maybe roll up part of the front north of the pocket? Was that possibility discussed?
