October 22, 1943

More sweeps over Rangoon yield good results
He lost 34 Franks ( 31 air-2-air and 3 ops ) while I lost 9 thunderbolts( 5 air-2-air and 4 ops )

at sea the O21 sank Taian Maru an Aden class xAK

and SW of Balikpapan SS Sargo fired 2 torpedoes at SS I-25 but they missed

The only land action was my bombardment at Lashio, no damage inflicted

Here is an interesting shot. This is total air-2-air losses for both sides considering only fighter aircraft.
Note first that the top 5 are all Japan. If we compare the top 5 for Japan versus the P-47D25
it is about an 7.4:1 ratio. Looking at all fighters he has lost 1513 in air-2-air losses and I have lost 758
which is a total ratio of about 2:1. But that does include the losses for the early game.

Do you have a feel for whether his fighters have been lost in away from base missions or over their own bases? Makes a difference for his pilot losses, which are a more critical factor than his plane losses.

I am pretty sure that the majority of them were over his bases, but if I remember right the pilot survival rate for Japan is lower than the Allies.

I day bombed Uttaradit for not much, some runway damage and a couple of destroyed Helens

I had an order mistake, one of the units that was to bomb Uttaradit ended my bombing Moulmein and lost a number of bombers.

I had 5 squadrons of Hurricane IIcs sweep Toungoo. The first our
were about a 1:1 result but last was a decided victory. The four were
met by both Franks and Nicks on CAP but the last was only Nicks

I was surprised at how good the Hurricanes did, they are definitely inferior airframes
compared to the Frank and even the Nick has some superior characteristics.
So with Japan losing 11 Nicks( 7 air-2-air and 4 ops) and 8 Franks( 7 air-2-air and 1 ops)
and the Brits losing 16 Hurricanes( 10 air-2-air and 6 ops ) it was a victory for the Allies.
Note that the Brits only lost 2 pilots since the air battle occurred over a base where I have troops.

It seems to have been traveling alone. I wonder what is up with that.

It is getting too hot up around the Nagasaki area, his naval search and E boats are too much.
I had two subs damaged enough they need a ship repair yard, so off they go and the rest that
were in the area are moving elsewhere.

I bombed the airfield at Rangoon today. He must have a lot of his AAA there, I suffered 5 flak losses
and 7 ops losses. Mouse over shows 54 airfield damage and no aircraft there. I will just leave it alone
for now, it is not important.

There has been a movement arrow from Lashio for a few days now and my bombardment attack showed
only one unit left there. It is the 11th Garrison Unit which is probably not too experienced so we will
DA tomorrow and take the base. I will miss the experience gain from bombardment attacks.

The hex NE of Lashio is also showing a movement arrow. Right now there are two IJA divisions and the
3rd RTA/A Division there. The assault values shown are 3462 for the Allies and 922 for Japan.
Because all of my AV is made up of Chinese troops and they are short on heavy weapons I will
hold off to see if he moves out of the hex. My goal is to push him back into Paoshan and I will set
up a defensive screen in the area with a river between him and most of my units. I just
want to hold him there for now. Rangoon is the main target but I am waiting for some more
Indian and British troops to make the trek to Burma.

Here is a shot of Burma as of now. The three hexes in the yellow boxes are where I wish to set up a blockade.

Tanung Gyi is firmly held but I have a blockade force there now. Toungoo is the hex I need to take, I have
a fair number of units there but it is jungle terrain and he has at least level 5 forts. It will be 2-3 weeks before
reinforcements arrive. But now that I have driven off most of his fighters, I may be able to bomb him and
raise his disruption.

Singkep has resources. Perhaps the xAKL was hauling some to Singapore to feed the industries there? (If Japan still controls it).

Japan still controls all of Malaysia. I haven't looked but I thought that Malaysia has all the resources it needs.

October 27, 1943

Not a lot happened. I lost an xAKL to a sub off of Kendari. A few sweeps flew, most aircraft were grounded by weather.

Lashio will not be as easy as I thought. The problem with attacking with Chinese only troops is the lack of heavy weapons
And he is in jungle-rough terrain with level 5 forts, so it will be hard to move him. I might have to wait for more troops

In the screenshot, the sub was lost where the two IJN TFs are. Also, there are no bombers on that TF shown.
At Madjene I have a TF with two modern BBs, 5 Fletchers and 2 Mahon DDs. They have been sent to try and intercept
the TFs there. I also have another light TF consisting 3 Brooklyn CLs and 8 Fletchers that are moving into the area
and trying to intercept. I have both Day and night naval search from Madjene in the air. Also at Madjene I have
2 TBF squadrons, 2 SDB squadrons, and 4 B-25D1 squadrons, all flying night naval attack. The moonlight is only
35%, so they might miss the targets, but we will see. As can be seen there are way too many fighters on those
CVEs to try a daylight attack. I think this is the first night naval attack I have tried, and he has done a number of
them, without much success.

November 3, 1943

I am not sure why, but none of my night time Naval Attack missions flew. I did not get any messages about
planes not finding target, just nothing at all.

But in the morning a giant surface combat took place.
and then a second one, but my ships were low on ammo so did not do as well but considering, I am happy

I am not showing all the combat reports, just the good part
My modern BBs did fine work and the DDs put up quite the fight. There were torpedoes going everywhere and none hit anything.
I have a couple of ships that have some damage but none are in danger of sinking.

BB Yamashiro and DD Natsushio are listed on the sunk ship list, but there was sinking ship sounds later in the turn
