In daring raids on Georgetown (by unescorted 4E) bombers and fighter sweeps over Chumphon (one of our major fighter bases) the Allies loose a number of aircraft

Oscar IIa do the damages against the 4E while mostly r model Franks fight against the P-38J.

The Oscar unit is one of three that has been training in low level naval attack for several months, they are getting so good now though that they will be converted to heavier aircraft to join the front line. May have to buy out a couple of units from Japan to reforn an Oscar II naval attack capability.

Well done. In the long run, you will win unless the enemy accelerates dramatically and at great risk.

Thanks Cribtop, I'm starting to be more and more convinced we have "won" that is we will keep the Allies from turning the home islands into a crater...

Have you faced any strat bombing of Bangkok yet? Seems like he's plenty in range.

The Thais did good work there. Very surprising. Did you change leaders out?

Thanks obvert, yes he is in range, but using his 4E aagnst our ground troops... without them he wouldn't be moving us. Bangkok is protected by 200 George as well... but he would blow through them and really they are a token as as soon as he attacks they will pull back. Not enough in Bangkok to really fight hard for.

Yes changed out some of the Thai leaders, they have plenty of supply and are behind 2-3 forts (H'mm 1 unit may be 4 forts), but the attrition is getting to them...

Chiang Mai should make level 6 forts, and has 10k in supply so far. the 54th div is almost u\full strength so it should deny the use of Chiang Mai for up to a month.

Both Moulmein and Chiang Mai are 1 % off their next fort level, 7 and 6 respectfully. Pulling back more troops to create a bigger reserve... something nasty is coming.

Well our fighters LRCAPed the Thai forces, his sweeps came in first though and we didn't really get into the bomber stream. See below for the totals. A bit disapointing to be flying basically the best fighters, with around 60 exp, 70 A-A and 60 Def pilots and still only just do 1:1...

we were at 4 altitude bands, 38,000 for the "r" models, 31,000 for the George, some "r" at 16,000 and the oscar at 1000. The enemy fighters generally get our lower flying CAP, then when thebombers came the rest were too high to intercept that effectively.

We are pursuing the troops thrown out of Sian and repairing the oil.

Any "Pearls of Wisdom" on how to deal with those nasty P-47s on sweep missions?? If I get 1:3 kill ratio, I'm happy. I dread early '44 when the next version comes out and he gets over 150 of them per month (in late 12/43 now).

Also, just curious if you're shutting down any refineries or if you still have enough oil moving to the HI to keep it all going. Not sure what is 'normal' here.

ny59giants, the strategy is avoidance! Our fighters are mainly used to protect bases outside of his escort range, with the occasional LRCAP / Sweep to try to keep him honest... We are trying to hold him far enough away from bases that he can't escort. That is then forcing him to use his air against our ground troops. Ultimately it is a loosing strategy, just one where we hope to loose at a slower rate!

There just isn't the oil to ship and we expect that we can only keep the HI refineries operating about 50% of the time... is there any point in shutting them down?

We have about 200k (20days) of fuel on the water as well.

Ship movements are carefully considered.

I'm tempted to shut off all further building of xAK's we have heaps, but the new ones are nice. All xAKL have been turned off months ago.

Finschhafen is attacked again. The place is trahsed, but all our aircraft are out.

Spitfires appear over Chungking even though the base is reported as 100% disabled. We loose about 20 aircraft to 5. We have just moved a stack of fighters into this area, so this turn will see the place swept and bombed to dust.

Andrew has managed to get three good corps trapped. He moved into a hex we controlled, and now our troops are moving in behind him, he has nowhere to go...

I have no idea if there is any reason to shut them off. I thought maybe it would just make the use of oil that appears occasionally more consistently refined and processed so there wasn't a glut, then a surplus. (Actually there will never be a surplus). Anyway, so that it's more consistent, but I guess it doesn't matter in the end. It's all the same amount being used.

The first few days not much happened as we tracked the Allied CV's SW of Ceylon. Then on the 10th out of the blue Merauke was invaded!
