Should be able to isolate and take that base back. The Allies have built a nice level 5 field there. [:)]

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]WEST OZ: [/font]Paras of the 1st Raiding Reg land at Exmouth and attack, knocking forts down from 3 to 2 in a 1:1 result. On the 28th they drop forts to 0 getting a 2:1 and will continue to attack in spite of fatigue. Shortly after this two other SNLF para units will strike at Carnarvon.

If both bases fall quickly, in about a week, if all stil looks good, I may land two divisions at Geraldton. I have tanks prepping for Esperance, so if there is a strong response railed in there is a possibility to strike there and threaten cutting off forward troops at Kalgoorlie.

I don't expect all of this to go forward, and I'm sure he's been getting SIGINT hits for all of these units prepping and moving, but it may at least force the Allies to put units out of position, change prep possibly, and maybe even draw CVs into an area where they can be observed and even put under threat by hunter/killer sub groups.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]SIGINT: [/font] A week or so ago there were some big blips on SIGINT moving Southwest of PH. I am now seeing increased activity at Sydney. This seems like it could be a shift of the CVs to So Pac and possibly to West OZ. I have some I-boat scouts aong the South OZ coast, but will transfer a few more down here now to hopefully spot any move coming this way.

Also, in a related note, I am seeing some units along the rail moving to West OZ. So far it looks like no divisions have popped up in Perth or Geraldton, but recon is on high alert for anything new arriving.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]WEST OZ: [/font] Apologies for the lack of updates. We're still doing a turn a day and often 2 a day on the weekends. It's busy at work around now, and I've been enjoying the turns and taking my time there instead of here working on posting. That'll change soon. Only a week until summer break! [8D]

The plodding toward the West OZ coastline continues. I've loaded two divisions aimed at Geraldton with 40+ prep each and a few other supporting units to follow assuming they take the base in short order. I've never landed against defended targets with prep this low, so I'm curious how this will work. If it's a disaster I'll just load up and clear out. [:)]

It seems Joseph is holing up in Kalgoorlie and not interested in committing to a defense here, which reduces one of the goals; getting VPs for Allied units. It helps in the other goal of quickly acquiring the region to see i we can inherit some resources and use some industry to support a delay in any Allied advance to the DEI through West Oz.

Paras took Exmouth on the 29th and this level 5 field will be useful to search and ward off \allied threats into the future. Next stop; Carnarvon.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]SW PAC: [/font] I sent 4 Kamikaze class old DDs in to Iron Bottom sound to rattle the PT boat flotilla there, and managed to sink 5 of the pesky things. It was very dark and that seemed to work this time. Not sure what is better for killing PTs, but in daylight the DDs didn't hit a thing in the third engagement of the turn. These and two fast Es and a few RO boats are the only IJN presence in the area. I'm going to rely on air power to slow things here, but no major IJN commitments.

The Allies invaded Kirakira with a NZ Brigade, but it looks like prep was low, as there were a lot of disablements over the beach.

I've been getting 2-3 SIGINT messages a day sporadically over the last several weeks. No recon!

This is the kind of thing I've been getting a lot of recently. Usually that will reveal a number of individual ships in port and the fighter/bomber numbers.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]WEST OZ: [/font] Carnarvon falls. The US base force loses a bunch of support troops and if all goes well has no place to go anyway. Now the focus is on Geraldton. The portion of the IJN assigned to cover landings is moving past Exmouth into a dead zone without subs or air patrols now. I've tested the area and he's not really flying search here now, and subs are seemingly staying close to the shore. I've got a large contingent of subs patrolling off of Esperance and Albany to see what is coming and I want to send two 4 plane AV ships into the deeper IO to guard that flank, and they're moving slowly from Koepang now.

Gotta be careful, something big seems to be at Sydney.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]SW PAC: [/font] The Allied attack immediately at Kirakira, getting a 1:1 at first, and I decide it's time to give up my forward scouting base and fly out most of the two small Coy units here. I'm not really defending much below the Rabaul-Fincshafen line, so it's smoke and mirrors through the entire Solomons chain. I'll rattle some bones and bang some coconut trees occasionally, but mainly I'm just waiting for the Allies to be in range of the air force. By the time they are there will be Franks and service 2 Georges and Jacks down here, which is good.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]VPs: [/font]I'm eating 2-4 VPs a turn in central Burma by not garrisoning those bases. I don't want to lose troops, and by keeping no garrisons, damage on the fields has moved to 100/100 for three of the four so far. It's a small drain on my VP ratio, but it's also a delay for the Allies to get moving over here. I'l take it.

I did it "late" also, I want to say September of 1943, and I had a really rough time getting out.

I hear ya'll. The idea here is not to take and hold. I noticed a while back there was little here. Even before Joseph took over the game I'd made some adjustments to have the possibility of hitting the West Coast from Exmouth down. I knew there were only superficial forces here, and that if he had prepped and bought out Aussie troops for Burma and So Pac, then there might not be a lot still able to react. If there were then they would possibly be delayed in other areas, or change prep even if I do manage to force a larger engagement here.

If I can get some territory here, then I will get anything important out ASAP. I'll aim to pull any fuel or large amounts of supply left over, and leave only small forces and air power, plus a good number of short range subs.

Carnarvon and Exmouth will serve as scout bases with naval guards holding against paras, so they'll have to be prepped fr or bypassed, but could still serve as information posts regardless.

My aggressiveness and opportunistic attitude got the better of me on the 5th. I saw a few ships disbanded in port at Normanton. I made a late night choice to send Bettys to bomb the port, and the next day they flew without their escorts, previous to the sweep, directly into a hail of Hurricanes. We lost 25 planes. Ouch! [:(]

I'll not be doing that again. Luckily these were rookie pilots. Still it gives his fighters jocks kills as well as needlessly lost VPs, and I will not be doing that again. I can't trust LR escort, one-time recon reliability or that my opponent will not look at my recon and make adjustments. This is part of the adjustment with changing playing partners. I now have to assume best play and can't go on tendencies from the previous two years of game.

Looks like he's bringing units back from the front. Fewer units and numbers in both Perth and Geraldton. Probably smart.

I'll get plenty of land combat soon enough. He's stacking up in burma and that is definitely going to explode at some point. I'm going to be conserving as much as possible from here on out, but I'm not sure the numbers are actually so bad.

Using the same amount I've used for the past 24 days on this tracker account my fuel stocks would reduce by 859,761 fuel points in a year. Reduce another 24 days worth and I'd be going into 1/45 with ~4,531,746 in fuel stores.

At current usage my oil would go down 128,031 assuming I still held the same oil centers I hold now. Adjusting for just over a year at the same rate and I'd have 564,258 remaining on 1/45.

Have a look at njp72 numbers, since he's a very well run economy moving through 45. These look somewhat comparable as estimates. What do you have vs Bullwinkle?

The key to me is holding the oil and transit to Japan longer than 1/45. That is also a part of why I'm going for West Oz. Aiming to delay a move for the DEI by making it just that much harder.

Right now I'm using more shipping for this op in Oz, and I'm hoping to recoup that with fuel that is there. I may find none left, so it's a gamble. I've gotten about 1,000 points form Exmouth and Carnarvon o far, which is a pittance, but Perth is a size 9 port. Might be some there, especially since he's pulled forces out and any battle would be quick, hopefully.

Real conservation including turning off all but the most critical field/forts construction will commence on 1/45. I hope to be pulling units back out of OZ by then as well, settling down use of combat ships and troop transports and waiting.

At current usage my oil would go down 128,031 assuming I still held the same oil centers I hold now. Adjusting for just over a year at the same rate and I'd have 564,258 remaining on 1/45.

Have a look at njp72 numbers, since he's a very well run economy moving through 45. These look somewhat comparable as estimates. What do you have vs Bullwinkle?

I'm trying to cut the rail at Cunerdin, hoping that if he turns the spigot off toward Perth and sends it backwards, that I could trap some of that fuel and supply in there.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]SUBS: [/font]Allied subs hit a few of my little but important ships off of OZ. I was sending in two DMS to clean out Geraldton if needed and subs got them both. Yikes. It's getting to be that time.

Then worse happened on the 7th. The CVE Hosho is embedded with a big follow-on invasion TF and Plunger pops up to nail the little carrier with one Mk14. Luckily the Hosho is only at 18/29(15) and it can still do 18 knots. They'll hug the coast and pray for now.

On the 8th all hell breaks loose around Geraldton as amphibs move in. Seal, Ray, Tambor, Searaven and O21 are all engaged and fire on our TFs. Luckily no more major ships are hit, and the escorts sink Searaven outright on the surface and hit O21 with a few penetrating shots and set it on fire. Kates in the day report hitting three more subs.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]WEST OZ: [/font]The invasions land on the night of the 8th after moving in from two hexes out and begin to unload during the night phase. The CD guns hit the escorting cruisers but the amphibs are relatively unscathed. I got a bit worried when the two divisions take over 200 disabled infantry squads landing, but they're both low disruption and over 2/3 healthy, thankfully. This was a gamble at 40+ prep, and it's good to be able to still attack on D-day +1. They should easily take the base against just the fortress left here with AV at 622 vs 6.

I dropped on Cunerdin to find three RAN base forces there. Maybe trying to rail out? Our para suffered but these haven't attacked since the landing, meaning they're either still in strat mode or he thought I was going to keep ging and land more. I've waited, but have three other para units to send, and will land more on the 9th, hoping to at least thwart any attack by the Aussies if not take the base.

Lost a small 14 knot AV which was acting as a scout ship on the western flank in the IO. What was the Plunger doing 12-15 hexes off the OZ coastline? [:@]

I'm getting up to about 5k fuel captured and another ~4k supply. If Perth has a some for us then this'll be completely paid for and we'll also get to wipe out the resources at Kalgoorlie and Corrunna Downs to get some more permanent strat VPs. [:)]
