when this war is over -Im going to count the casualties

How many@#$#@% bloody computer components are going to die before we get to the end!

Router died last night.
Internet connection -KAPUT!

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Anyway -Tabpub takes Noemfoer on the northern PNG coast today.
The interesting bit was he used the 2nd marines -why?
makes me wonder if the main thrust is a few weeks away yet -if it is -Im cooked -fleet at sea, using the last of my fuel reserves.

usual chaos of AKs being hunted by ss -its terible to watch[8|][:(]
But, as long as they hunt them, the carriers are unmolested.
Fleet fully in position now -now will Tabpub co operate and attack where i think he will?

Phnom Pehn fell today -Indo china all but gone -taken by well executed flanking attacks and paras ultimately -not a sledge hammer as Im sure he planned too.
bangkok still holds -and pins 5000 AV in the siege.
(not going to face the fact of what I lose when it does die)[:D]

posting from memory today
Amazing how players have different perspectives on the same event
Today I had my very best Jack pilots on duty at taipei -exp only 55 -tells you the state of the empire[:(]
These 48 pilots spent today fighting of waves and waves of P38 fighters, p40's mitchell and some B-29s (and liberators)
End result -about 15 left to fight tomorrow -they knocked down some enemy -but overall, a group painfully built over months -gone
Pool is empty of these too.

yet at Medan, 40 Frank and 60 Tony escorted 60 betties - they met what Tabpub tells me was the Cream of his spitfires -and only 6 fighters got through, the bombers were untouched -yet only hit 2 AKs out of 10 attacked.

My perspective -distaste over the Jacks -tabpubs over the performance of his Spits! (he lost 6)
Funny game WITP.

But today pretty symbollic of my situation, 4 squadrons of fighters gutted today -and no replacements available for them -I am having trouble calculating it -but my impression is that Im building about 3 zekes a day, 2 george a day, and about 3 Franks.
No bombers coming (maybe one or two) and the factories "producing" Tonies, jacks ect seem to have stopped -supply levels in most Japanese cities are under 20000, and only 4 cities have fuel over 2000 in them.

Tabpub secured noemfoer? in png today, and CVs and a lot of LBA hit Kupang -the invasion here is close, and I don't think all those ships at medan were there for a tour iether!

troops approaching siagon -it recieved a regiment today -at AV of 40[8|]
Indo china soon to fall totally - but the siege of bangkok continues!

I have all but emptied sumutra of troops -if this succeeds -Ill try to rescue the Malaya army next.

Other than the CVs, I count about 300 fighters all types on map full stop now.

Just 7 jacks left at taipeai now -as tabpub hunts down the last ships there.
Noose closing arounf siagon -about a week left
Kupang invaded -classic Tabpub invasion.

If you are a newbie as Allied (and Im going to apply this advice to myself) and you want to know how to conduct a proper, no hassles invasion -talk to Tabpub.

he keeps landing at places with insufficient troops -initially -but the thing is, in the last string of invasions I have not had a look in.
he is getting ruthless.

The SS war continues - Im trying to shuttle fuel to ports, then AOs from those ports to the fleet -as it sits in its single hex -hiding in the middle of no where

All of PNG is now his too -only by passed wewak and Hollandia remain.

Funny game for me now -turns take 5 minutes to plot - against 1 hr for most games Im in at the moment.

My game with Max is the same.

The replay takes longer than the turn takes to do.  Very occasionally (and becoming more infrequent), I get to set a successful ambush.  Otherwise it's just the grind of a sky full of allied bombers blowing everyhting to pieces.

3rd and 4th,5th of july 1944
de da vue type days

Bombs, bombs, bombs, and a few rockets and bombs over the last 2 days

B-29s hit oil at harbin -ouch - maybe I should not have told him I was really struggling for it now[:)]
he swept parishimio again -and culled a lot of fighters -Franks -exp 44 -so not much chop.

training of airgroups is almost finished as well on the map -China is too deadly, and Im running out of fields in Sumutra to train from -but I need fighters first !

tabpub continues to attack at Kupang - I have 2 regiments there, a NLF and a base force -he has landed the 5th Aussie division, and a gazzillion tanks.

Kompong trach fell on the 5th -Siagon soon to go.

The fleet stays on station[:@]

Continued air action over taipeai, as his heavies, mediums and a lot of fighters continue to attack the place
the last 8 jack pilots there do really well, 1to 1 losses and kills -but they are overwhelmed today.
Fini - will withdraw them if I can

A single tanker, and 3 AK, escorted heavily try for the run into Palembang today -the dutch ss get the tanker, the AK, and an escort.
We finally, finally kill for certain ss 020, and maybe 019 in revenge.

I just see huge gatherings of ships at Hollandia ect -and ask TABPUB is he ready yet?[8|][8|][8|] and remind him that Tokyo is still a long, long way away.

Interestingly he said he has no intention of visiting the place -(no invasion planned in his mind?) and that he intended to fly over it -just once[:(][:(][:(][:(][:(][:)] -me thinks KKKKKAAAAAAAAAAAAABOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM[:D]

But based on that little E mail I spend all my political points on understrength LCU units -the home islands will be stripped of troops -and I will use them (if I can ship em) in the inner ring of islands

7/7/44

Little to report -bombs, bombs, bombs. Endless bombing of Kupang -the battle here could take about 3weeks I think

In Indo china I make a stand at Pnom phen -a 30% strength 30th division stops 3 chinese units cold today.

I am gathering the last troops from Soerabaya today -destination Morotio -the thinking is pretty brutal -why now waste troops defending a resource centre when I can no longer get the resources out.
After today , i counted tankers -recieved several this week -shock - 15 tankers on map, plus 9 AOs.

A significant day in the war -B-29s in a night bombing raid from China over Japan -Kyoto is hit by 30 of the buggars -but they caused only alarm, no damage
He pounds Tientsin with the bombers -oil the target
Morotai is also bombed

Kupang the aussies are rapidly gaining the upper hand

9/7/44
The bombing continues -taipai -Tietsin -oil and resources the targets
And the heavies visit Singapore for the first time -the few tonies left there are simply swept away
the enemy enters Camhran Bay

I do manage to pick up the last troops from Java -they are sailing north to Morotai - I intend to crash them ashore regardless
The last oil convoy sails from tarakan -although I have gathered 4 more tankers in japan -AOs mainly -those little ones japan gets at this stage -and they will also head for what oil I can gather

10/7/44
Kupang falls!
Ambionia is invaded -and probably will fall very quick
The tanker convoy beats of its first SS
The troop convoy kills one

A actually saw the fiji brigade in action today -hunting down isolated and lost troops north of Lea -Tabpub really seems intent on turning every hex green[:'(]

It was a interesting turn today
Tabpub and myself don't really say that much to each other -"back to you" is a long comment some times[:)] -but I wrote to him and told him what I thought were his coming plans -Kendari, drive up towards soerabaya, ect, ect.

He actually came back and said that he is roughly following an actual plan that once was on the table for the real war -not plan orange iether(Well i could guess that)
I reckon I was right then a while back -its Mac Aurthurs proposed drive up the PNG coast -and the re invasion of the phillipines.
I hope so -its about all I could fight at all at this stage.

A very bad day for me - the fleet swallowed the last fuel reserves in the tankers today -BINGO fuel for the navy.
Very bitterly I order it home to japan -if it again dodges the SS I will be pleased.

Landings at ambionia continue -very tempted to attack it -but this is not the decisive battle.
The tanker convoy is attacked -2 pg lost today

His CVs hit Singapore, usual bombing everywhere
Cam Bay fell[:(]
paras Bien Hoa - we defeat them

I counted my CV strength today -exactly 1000 planes.

I now have to hope that his attack on the phillipines is scheduled for September/October

Another Tabpub E mail

The siege of Bangkokinsgrad must finish!!!!![:D][:D][:D][:D]

he has swung (I think) massive bombing strength to here -the replays went on, and on, and on[8|]
CVs hit singapore -shipyard repairs today
B-29s singapore port, Kuala Lumpar resources.
taipei resources

I used some kamis at medan - all shot down
a couple of small bettie, francis raids of 9 plane flights tried here and there -no hits

Some bewilderment here -he is landing at Bulla -more "clean up isolated troops' stuff.
Can only think this is a points thing -or a desire to see all the map green

Pnom phen fell today
The fleet is headed home -my notes say -this is stuffed
The first zeke unit disbanded after the Truk fiasco returns tomorrow - and the pool (thanks to no real tabpub pressure) has 300 zekes in it.

There is little to say today

Bangkok fell[:(][:(][:(]

This truly is a disaster - un avoidable -but it spells the true end of the empire.
60000 troops will now be destroyed I suppose -but more terrifying is the number of men and planes and ships this will release for tabpub

I must give him great credit in his perseverance - that was one hell of a siege

Buka cleared of troops

In one sentence - HELP!!!!!!!!!!

In shock, the empire cancels all shipbuilding -again

Batten down the hatches time

The fleet has wasted its fuel reserves -it is returning home -trying to dodge all the SS

Some air groups coming back onto map -zeke pool is perilous though.

15/7/44

I lose an AO to SS today -first caso of the great return home
heavy bombing everywhere.
Big convoy arrives at Morotai -where a division from soerabaya is unloading
Tabpub interdicts -3 AP lost to liberators, a PG, a MSW as well

My betties have been penny packet attacking all over the place -I am not(although the AAR might suggest it) been passive -simply nothing iether getting through -or if it does -it misses.

Ambionia falls

The baddies are squeezing me now.

heres an exact copy of my notes as this turn unfolded

AK -sunk by ss of Iwo
AP hits mine soerabaya -sinks
10 sonia -attack homan -50 CAP[8|]
33 tony, 14 betty, 44 Francis attackHoman airfield -Im after his B-29s -23 T bolts, 29 P40n CAP -its slaughter, no survivors, no hits, no nothing

kendari bombed
29 Frank at Morotoi CAP -46 p40n and 16 B-26 attack
13 frank lost, ships spared -the convoy is 50% unloaded of a full division here
Weda hit
23 oscar kamis from Weda attack -10 get through his CAP at ambionia -no hits
59 lightnings strike Morotoi -32 liberators -15 franks CAP -24 hits on the field, the franks fled
More liberators morotoi -7 AK/AP hit
3, then 12 francis attack Ambionia -6 get through -miss the BBs there
6 bettys do not get through
AO is missed by a ss -the ss is sunk in turn

A typical day of the war as of late -all my attacks fail.
His heavy bombers sink anything in range.
grrrrrrrrrr

A bad day

1 -incredibly boring, bombing raid after bombing raid after bombing raid all over the map.
Massive LBA strikes the ships at Morotio -they have unloaded though -17 ships sunk.

That is IT, for ships, I literally have only about 50 AK/ap hulls left.

Slaughter, slaughter, slaughter.

18/7/44
The fleet arrived home -fuel tanks dry, and little to fill them in the home islands

This turn almost broke my heart, almost gave up to be frank
A bug has ripped some 500 pilots from me.
Most CV groups lost half there pilots.
Now the experience levels are back to the 30's and 40's,.
I had 3 airgroups in home islands with 100-150 pilots of 60 plus experience in them, over the last 2 years I have disbanded all my shattered groups into these 3 squadrons -hoping that I would be able to sustain the home island defence.
Some of these were 90 experience pilots.
All, all the excess pilots have vanished from the map basically.
If the group was at normal pilot strength, no change -overborne -gutted.

Yet again the game causes more damage than Tabpub could.
This is a fatal blow.
I am now going to convert ALL CV groups to Kamis and zero cap -max escorts -and just go for 1 big attack -and hope I can cause some damage.
Plans to get the BBs into range under a big CAP of planes are finished.

BUGGAR IT!

Bizarre loss of pilots. Looks like vengeance for all those UV games with that Noumea P-39 group that was always overstrength in pilots.

Now  you have me worried - that has been a favoured strategy of mine, building large groups of good to very good pilots to use at critical junctures.

Now you are telling me they might just desert!

I wonder whether you have reached the magical pilot limit.

I have noticed an occasional interesting bug the other way at times - every once and a while, when you get more than the usual 1 naval replacement in a day, you draw him down but there is still one left in the pool.  I have received up to 10 mystically trained pilots this way.  I assume that they may well be WIA or MIA pilots that have rejoined the fight, but can't confirm that.

Posting from work, and memory
had a few E mail problems, so a minor delay to the game.

If you are reading Tabpub -I see his latest title says Siagon isolated

Well that is right, there is little hope that siagon will last much longer.
That leaves the army in malaya to be destroyed by him -that will take a while I think.

Its all relative -the resource areas are not really worth anything to me now, as I have little shipping left

Honestly have been pretty bored with this game for a while as Tabpub grinds away, having all the airgroups experience suddenly go from the mid 60's to less than 40 in a lot of cases also really is a gut kicking.

So I have converted all CV dive bombers to Kamis -put the CVs to 30% CAP -and will -if I get the fuel -simply charge the enemy -put all the fighters on escort -and hope enough numbers will allow us to get the strike through.
The CVs will get killed -but maybe the BBs will be able to get in then.
Counter attack at this stage is simply impossible, as his heavy 4 engined bombers simply spot and sink anything in range - I need him to leap ahead a bit and expose himself -something he simple will not do.

Frustrating
I watch hours of bombing - then plot for about 5 minutes -and its all about fuel gathering at the moment -not much about iether!
Its fairly obvious that he will by pass Siapan -its the phillipines I think.
At least here I have gazillions of troops -especially in davao.

The next battle will probably be Morotio -I hope the division that I unloaded here will delay him long enough for the fleet to get south -IF I gather the fuel .

At this rate this may well be a game where the fleet is sunk in port -the carriers with no airgroups onboard -the BB's and CA's with no fuel in the tanks[8|]

I think this bug happens when the pilot roster with 10000 pilots is exhausted.
You will then experience each turn that your pilots 'disappear'. This can be a critical show stopper.
Which version are you using?

Suggest you find a turn that dates back to before the pilot bug hit and put the game on hold until
it can be figured out if this can be fixed. If not you're toast.

You still have a long long road ahead, no way you can do without pilots as well.
If you find 1944 one sided, 1945 will be a lot tougher [:'(]

Uggh. 500 pilots a day [X(] That does sound like a demoralizing deal-breaker.

Why couldnt they set the pilot limit at 2 to the 32nd power (4294967296) or something?

OK

I have not posted for a couple of days.
Tabpub has advised me to put a hold on turns -we have hit a game breaker with the pilot issue -he and Joe are trying to come up with a soultion -me -Im too thick of a computer brick to do anything to help , so Im trusting the Yanks here!

This really, is, BAD, BAD , BAD news for this game -and any one playing WITP .
3 years of playing are at risk here -let alone my entire strategy of the last 18 game month time.

I have not had much time to read the forums of late -but I sincerely hope the expansion pack solves this problem.
I for one cannot face starting a game now where you cannot finish.
So, for the moment -this game is on hold, and the decisive battle remains unfought.

Just a bump

The game aint dead yet -but its also hard to find a pulse

After playing for so long with the strategy of a decisive battle in the phillipines, backed by the pilot pools so painfully built back up - Im not really prepared to play for another year
as just a punching bag with rookie pilots -with no chance of any striking back at all.

have not heard from tabpub for a while.
See what happens I suppose.
