I'm playing with C&C off. My arty units, core onboard and support offboard, randomly are and are not availible. I can fire them one turn then the next some of them are greyed out in the arty screen ("B" key screen). This even happens to platoon mortars that are 3 hexes away from their platoon leader (the 0 unit).

OK, I'm confused as to why this happens. I did not see anything in the manual but perhaps its there.

Can anyone please explain what cause arty to come and go when C&C is not being used?

C&C applies to onboard units. Off-board units are either:

Subject to the vagueries of propagation (I'm you've had the fun of using a PRC-77 imagine howit musta been in the "old days

Subject to someone with either more horsepower on their shoulder , or more (choose one: Vodka, Snapps, French wine) than your CO, telling the arty crew to support HIS troops for a few turns...

Artillery definately needs a some work!

But again every change always produces at least two bugs. We are fighting the Hydra here
