WIR fan site

Currently working on a new web site dedicated to strategy games, historical books, may be web design too, I've thought about adding a WIR section, where you could download everything that can be found on the net including the game files plus some more about the game history, the WIR community (especially Gary Grigsby of course), tournament result tables <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0"> , historical battle analysis and so on. At Dave's Corner you can see a design preview. The links aren't yet working except of the poll.
There are two reasons why I tell you all this at this point:

1. I would like to know if you guys would like that kind of site and if the author's and owner's of the game and the other stuff would give me the permission to upload it.

2. This shouldn't be a competition to Loki's great Yahoo storage. It's just a different concept.

I'd like to see it not as 'my' site but 'our' site. Please let me know what you're looking for and I'll see what I can do. Suggestions of any kind are welcome.

Thanks Muzrub. What I need most at the moment is to know what you all would like to see. Shall I first go for i.e. a download centre, game reviews, historical articles or anything completely different? It doesn't make sense to biuld up the site with content that nobody is interested in.

BTW does anybody know how to change the forum user's displayed name. I ALWAYS get the 'already used' message even if I try something weird like 'udjhgei'. <img src="eek.gif" border="0">

Sounds good

Would not be competition for the download site as it would be nice to have your site as a hotlink on the WiR Board page. I could then shift all the stuff over to your site.
That would be much better than my current use of a thread at this time.

Thanks all for the kind posts. I surely will ask for your help <img src="smile.gif" border="0">
First thing I'm gonna do is carrying out Varjager's suggestion for a usermade scenarios' section. So if anybody wants to publish any scenario that hasn't been posted before please let me know.
Then I'll do another poll about your suggestions to see what you want next. Further more ideas are of course welcome and will be in the future.

Loki please mail me that we can discuss the way our sites will complement best.

OK, i'll email you soon.
info@davescorner.de correct?

I love this...
"George: You know, that's the thing I don't really understand about you, Cap. You're a professional soldier, and yet, sometimes you sound as though you bally well haven't enjoyed soldiering at all.
Edmund: Well, you see, George, I did like it, back in the old days when the prerequisite of a British campaign was that the enemy should under no
circumstances carry guns -- even spears made us think twice. The kind of people we liked to fight were two feet tall and armed with dry grass."

Edmund sounds like a young Montgomery. How 'bally' confusing rommel must have been to him. Damm gerry, we needed 6-1 in Africa just to get the damn blighter to rereat.

Email address is absolutely correct.

Did you watch Blackadder?
I've seen only a few parts of it at german television (original sound) but I've always loved that series even reading the scripts (for example at Gary's Blackadder Front Page ) makes me laugh a lot.

Wish you all a nice day <img src="cool.gif" border="0">

We seem to think alike. The Blackadder series and epecially the Blackadder3 series is true comedy.
I really only like atkinson in the BA series as he is so much better when he talks. The episode where he explains kitcheners' plan to win WW1 is a classic as are so many other sketches.

Coffee darling?....

Will talk to you soon.

Dave speaking. I was too silly to change my user name so I registered again. ('d3a2v1e' sucks of course.)

Anyway, I spend a few days updating the design of the site. Now a scenario page has been added. I took the four files from Loki's site (with his kind permission) plus brief descriptions. If the files' authors want to see anything changed or want to add their own description, please let me know.
New scenarios are of course welcome. I'm gonna post a new topic on that so everyone will notice this request.
Please take part in the polls or mail me in order to let me know what the community wants. If anyone likes to do his own page and want it to be connected, you're welcome too.

That's it for tonight. (It's 4.00 am local time. I got to get some sleep.)

See ya

Latest news.

1. Added a german version site so don't be surprised by the 'Choose language' screen when entering next time.

2. Added a download area. (I think sceanrios and other download on different pages looks more open.) There are Hints and House Rules - Are they to be converted to ASCII? I think like Ed (who mentioned that before) that there is no reason (like layout and so on) to use doc format. Would be smaller and almost same looking. - Wirhack, and the detailed Wirmap.

3. I added there too for testing purposes the Wir manual converted to rich text format and then converted to html. Some of you talked about updating the manual but not to have a pdf editor. So I did it and you can see the result. I could edit the pdf myself but the converted files can be edited by everybody and a html for example would be handle in the future. But see yourself and let's discuss what we'll do. (All the unit and weapon changes of all the scanrios could be added...)
There is also the map extracted from the manual pdf so it's complete.

4. Apparently there is no new scenario, at least till now. So why not discussing what scenario idea (new one or mod, anyway) could be worth the work or if it's all done by now.

Last but not least I would like to play Rick's obviously great soviet attack campaign for the first time but not against AI. If anybody would like too... (But then I would have even less time for updating the website. <img src="cool.gif" border="0"> ) Any side, at least three turns a week from my side.

That's enough for today.

If you look at this forum you find out that the same questions and answers show up every few weeks. So FAQ would be great. If somebody has a question he might start a thread called FAQ and then it can be transferred to Daves site.
