I finally got my copy of TOAWIII a few weeks ago and have been sporadically replaying my contribution to the game, "Ecuador 95".

If anyone has played it(solo or PBEM), I'd appreciate any comments. I'm especially interested in the AI's behavior- when I played as the Ecuadoreans, the Peruvian PO was overly cautious, far more so than in the old version. Basically, the Peruvian Army in the coastal deserts just sat on its duff after taking Machala.

I'm going to try and tweak this thing soon to take advantage of TOAWIII improvements and changes.

Does anyone have enough experience with the new AI to wager a guess as to why the behavior of the Peruvians has changed so much?  I suppose I could remedy things by tweaking the strategic bias, but I didn't notice this overcautiousness in the COW version, and there have been no changes since then.

Possible, if the new PO takes that into account. I was doing rather well in the Amazon basin when I played the Ecuadoreans.

This is one of the major changes to the PO's behaviour. I don't recall exactly what Ralph said, but it was something along the lines of the PO drawing a line perpendicular to the line between its objectives and seeing if enemy forces were astride this line.

How far apart are the two theatres? This could be the problem, but I'm not sure.

You could try setting the PO to be more aggressive, then. This might help.

If the distance is counted in number of hexes and not scaled, then not very far- probably 15-20 hexes from the coast to the Amazon.
