New bug or new feature

I am encountering a new bug, or at least I think so. As a Japanese player I am used to disband often understrength air units, and they come back 90 days later with 0 aircraft and more important 0 pilot.

But I just received a reconstitued Zero units with its full complement of fighters and 27 pilots with exp around 75, as if it was a new units rather than a reformed one. It seems to me something changed in v1.8 to have this result.

Version of the game is v1.8.0.1, stock long campain started under v1.4 or v1.5.

By watching the air reinforcements lists, it seems to me that all disbanded units are shown with their number of AC as their maximum, while before they were displayed with 0 AC and so were easy to find in the list. Probably this change about the AC number produced the change on pilots, the game filling all AC with experienced pilots.

The result of this is that Japan (and the other) may now have illimited number of experienced pilots. Too gamey for me.

I'm not sure I can give definitive answer based on your description (devil in the detail) but there was a change in 1.8.0.1 that essentially shares disbanded pool pilots across air groups. This was intended to be a minor convenience for players, but in hindsight has proven to be quite exploitable. We are intending to remove it in the next patch and then ultimately in the future try to come up with a solution which gives us the desired benefits, without the undesired side effects. But if this is causing the symptom which you are observing, then yes it has an explanation. The next patch 1.8.0.2 is in the works and should be out shortly. In the mean time avoidance of as much disbanding as possible will minimize the undesired effects.

Thanks for the reply. I also believe it is linked to this new facility, but what I saw are brand new pilots, all with 0 missions and 0 kills. I only disbanded before Zero and Nell units, and their pilot came to the unit in the same base as before.

Anyway I will wait for the next patch (by the way, thanks for still doing patches two years after the release of the game), and in the mean time the returning groups will be awarded long vacation in Japan.

Actually I observed something similar when I disbanded large amounts of dutch air units. I set them all to return and they would come back with a full complement of pilots with what looked like the normal experience (50ish). The miniscule dutch pilot pool wasn't affected. Didn't keep saves tho.

This is an old bug. The pilots are being removed from the squadron but the running total of experience was not being cleared - causing the problem. Fixed in 1.8.0.2.

Same with my long term game... When I disband Japs units they arrive 90 days with full strenght and pilots with experience around 70-75.
For me good, because I can upgrade the numbers of planes used like the big transport L2D2.
