Transporting oil to Oz

It appears that once the DEI are gone, most of the oil supplies from Oz come from the US. Do others ship oil from the US to Oz and if so, how do you do it? Are there any logistics secrets? Do you just steam a Tanker TF all the way from LA to Sydney?

On the stock map 18000 tonnes a month or so from San Diego to Sydney or Melbourne via Auckland (for a top up!). In CHS on Andrew's extended map from Aden to Perth along the map edge initially after the fall of the DEI. Later after the US oil centres that start damaged are sorted from the US too, though the TKs in CHS can make the trip without having to refuel at Auckland. A single TK is hard to find right out in that big ocean...

The 18000 cap tankers have short legs. I run them thru PH to get a refill on their way to Sydney. I am trying to set a small dedicated group to do this

Thanks guys, that's what I thought. I have a TK, escorted by a couple of long legged MSW for the task. I usually fill up and clean the windshields at Pago-pago though.
YOur right a TK with a couple of escorts is very hard to spot.

I usually build 3 TK TFs with up to ten+ 18000pt TKs (1 in Karachi and 1 each in SF and SD) and send them to OZ. I normally send the one from Karachi to Adelaide or Melbourne and the ones from the US to Sydney and Brisbane. When the ports in northern Oz start to run dry I'll send a TK TF from Karachi to Derby (I've found for some reason fuel offloaded in northern Oz don't flow down south)

I send one TK of oil and 2 TK of fuel in the same TF. Then they can all refuel mid sea.

I do the same if the sea lanes are under attack, but normally route via Auckland. If I spot a sub or see a suspicious Naval build up I sortie the replenishment tfs I keep all along the route to Oz to top them up at sea in order to give me the fuel to avoid the potential trouble.

In CHS I use suva as middle point. I build it up and stack fuel there for tankers to refuel. Anyhow, in CHS tankers usually have longer legs to get from LA to Sydney without refuelling. My route is LA-Suva-Sydney. If Japanese get planes near to threat that, it may have ti be via Auckland then.

I am confused and hope you can help me out.
This thread is about transporting OIL to OZ and not just FUEL, correct?
I was under the impression that OIL is only used by the Japanese for production and not needed by the Allies as they have no real production, just reinforcements. If correct, then the only reason to take OIL from the DEI is to keep it away from the Japanese and there is no reason to transport OIL to OZ. Just when I thought I understood something, I read this thread and have to start all over again.
Thank you for your assistance.

Heavy Industry ( HI ) will produce one supply and on fuel if it has enough oil and resources. Oz has enough resources but is short on oil. By taking oil to Oz you actually get a two to one benefit. Plus, you convert those resources to supply using TKs which you have lots of.

In CHS Bora Bora/Tahiti is the primo mid point. Far enough away from Japanese bases and the AI routing does not get all effed up between the West Coast of USA and Tahiti...the routes don't "stray" into enemy AZOCs

You can also pair up the oil carrying Tks with fuel/supply/ac carrying AKs. The AKs will top off the TKs so you don't have to stop to refuel.

And your sailors always get a friendly welcome there, as well. [;)]

How do you get tankers to refuel without unloading their cargo? The only way I can manage it is to set their base as the ultimate destination and then send them to the mid point with orders to not unload? Is there any neater way?

No That's how it is designed to be done
