mixed force in campaigns

I noticed you can change the nationality while you're picking core forces for campaigns... So for instance I could buy a few 17 pounders to augment the relatively weak (at least in other SP's) US anti-tank guns... Or get Brittish commandos with US engineers, Canadian para's etc.

Would this introduce problems (bugs?) can they still be upgraded? could I for instance buy a bunch of 37mm (?) US AT, and upgrade them to 8 inch brittish arty? Or a Brit Sniper to a US engineer squad?

I'm going to try it but I'm wondering if anyone else has tried this already (admitedly not authentic)? Looks like you could even buy a section of *captured* =) Tigers to augment your Sherman's and their pea shooters.

Also I asked in another thread what the difference is between "Generated" and "long" Campaign, I can't find the thread I posted to (not for lack of trying) to see if anyone responded Image Can anyone clue me in?

Basically the same, sjuncal, one is much longer, usually takes you through the entire war period.

I think the units will stay with you, but I'd be interested in knowing if you do it, how it works. I've never tried it...WB

Why buy Brit 17 pounders when you can get US Army 90mm guns? The 90mm is more accurate, and both weapons have the same APCR penetration.
Yeah, you can buy whatever you want for your core forces, but I personally make myself stay with the original oob. Otherwise, I would play as the Japs and buy King Tigers to kill Marines with. Could be fun, though. Or maybe I would play as the Marines and buy King Tigers.

<grin> no 90mm (76mm is the biggest avialible) I guess because of the year the campaign starts on. No Hellcats either, just Tiger tank fodder.

That brings up another question... when you left click on units you've already bought that specific element is removed. For instance if you buy a platoon of engineers and left click the second squad you get a leader, and two squads (might be using incorrect lingo) if you do this and add another group of units (say a Platoon of normal rifle inf.) the rifle inf. will intermix with the engineers in an odd way, giving you something laid out like this:

US HQ

Engineer (leader unit?)

Engineer
Engineer
Engineer

Rifle (leader)

Rifle
Rifle
Rifle

Engineer (no leader)
Engineer
Engineer

Engineer
Engineer
Engineer

Rifle

60mm mortar
30cal
30cal
30cal
Forward obsv.

You can also get Engineer leaders over rifle squads, Brittish commandos in charge of US rifle platoons, anti-tank guns under infantry leaders... and there's not much you can do about it. Does this matter? Am I crippling my chain of command? Or it is merely cosmetic?

Maybe you have a different set of oobs for some reason? In my oobs, both the 17 pounder and the 90mm are available in January 43.

Related to the "chain of command".....
I have never been able to prove to myself that the overhead of a company is worth the cost.... I keep wondering why I purchase the HQ and then worry about keeping it alive.

The higher quality nations seem to have plenty of orders; the poor quality ones don't get any orders to speak of anyway.

Opps, I just didn't notice it... I was thinking anti-tank in the Arty catagory when it's AA and in the misc. section...

Aside from orders, if you buy sections, you get lieutenants and sergeants. If you buy a company you get a captain and he has better rally abilities.
