Just played my first game, but can't seem to work out how the game decides who owns a system when it comes out of turmoil after a freighter route is destroyed (either through freighter destruction or colony destruction). I don't seem to be getting any, so I must be doing something wrong.

The first player to rebuild the freighter(SP) route to the star gets the system... it is not automatically divided up between factions

I believe the homeworld closest to the star in turmoil gets warned when it's come out of turmoil... making it easier for you to build the freighter first.

In the case where you're not the closest one, watch the map often and be on the lookout for systems that come out of turmoil. Then quickly build a freighter before anyone else does.

You just need to have the freighter in your construction queue for the game to acknowledge you as the new owner.
