Everytime I try and launch HTTR or Cota the PC freezes up. It was working fine one moment then not the next. Doesnt seem to happen with any other game. Well I can move the cursor but that's it.

Any ideas?

A TOAW fundamentalist fanatic has given you a virus.[:D]

Try a good registry repair product.

In these cicumstances, normally something has changed. Have you updated drivers, Directx, windows update?

If you are running XP, you could use the restore facility and restore to a point to the day when you had it working

Well, the obvious ones you've probably already tried

- de-install COTA, re-install from scratch
- what's the last thing you installed ?
- At what point does is freeze ? - if it's before you get to the main menu (the transmitter thingie) then it's probable that it's the intro videos that are killing it. Try if you can run those files separately in Windows Media player - they're 3 files with an AVI extention in the main Cota directory.

Although, it will not help you now for the future consider a backup strategy for your systems. It should include:

(1) Logical backups of the entire system; meaning you can recover individual files.

(2) Physical backups of the system disk/partition; meaning you can recover an exact image of a disk.

#2 is what would help you now.

I use tapes for desktops and DVDs for my laptop here. I, also, have adhoc hotbackups that pre-stage critical files from one machine to another across the network.

System restore did the trick.

Very odd. Normally very good at solving this kind of think.
