I stumbled upon the following titles on Amazon. Has anyone had any experience with those?

Kaigun : Strategy, Tactics, and Technology in the Imperial Japanese Navy, 1887-1941 by David C. Evans

Warships of the Imperial Japanese Navy, 1869-1945 by Hansgeorg Jentschura

Sunburst: The Rise of Japanese Naval Air Power, 1909-1941 by Mark R. Peattie

Thanks :)

I don't have experience with those, but I can recommend Military Innovation in the Interwar Period by Williamson R. Murray and Allan Millett.  This book covers various topics like armored warfare, strategic bombing, etc. and then presents case studies on how three of the great powers differently addressed the problems during the interwar period.  The chapters of obvious interest to WPO are carrier development, submarine warfare, and amphibious assault.  The weakness of the book is separating out the historical study which takes place against a backdrop of the Washington Naval Treaties so there is an exercise in imagination to determine how the absence of those agreements would influence development.

From the Allied perspective, the "Bible" for a WPO player should be Edward S. Miller's War Plan Orange: The U.S. Strategy to Defeat Japan, 1897-1945 ISBN: 0870217593

I can really reccommend Kaigun and Sunburst. Both are excellent reasources, though only a relatively small section (about 1/4) of Kaigun pertains to WPO's era. Suburst is an invaluable resource, and is the driving force behind the majority of (and what is mainly holding up....) the 1.3 patch.

I'd also HIGHLY reccommend The Way of the Heavenly Sword: The Japanese Army in the 1920's which is a great book converning the army in the time period. It was the driving force behind a lot of 1.3's changes, but as those were mainly database those have been completed already.

All three are basic members of my shelf ... Sunburst isn't as useful for your period ... but the other 2 are.

Joe,

so how do you decide which book is more correct when they provide you with different data?
