Updating the beta tester waiting list

When we first asked for beta testers in December last year we had responses from the following people:
If...
* your name is on this list, and
* you still want to be a beta tester, and
* you have been active in the MWiF Forums over the last six months, and
* you have the spare time available to test MWiF, then
please post a reply to this message.

If your name is not on this list then please refrain from jumping in at this point. I know you're keen and I appreciate your enthusiasm... but I'm just weeding out the list of the original volunteers at this point.

Hi Greyshaft,

Although i have not posted much (referring to your requirement in Bold) over the last six months, i would (still) be absolutely delighted to be part of the beta test team.

Regards
David

Edit: Adding email for ease of recognition dthorsoe@gmail.com - thx

* you have been active in the MWiF Forums over the last six months, and
I'd say that even if you're shy and not very active on the MWiF Forum, you have at least to connect daily of once every 2 days to keep you informed. If you do not have the spare time for that, we will think that you won't have the spare time for testing MWiF, which is not only pleasure.
Then after becoming a tester, wether you're shy or not will no longer be relevant, as you will be obliged to post to the developpement forum to talk about what you found out about the game. So you will be come active.

I'd add that we need people who will seriously work on the project, people that will seriously implicate themselves in the project.

I don't do this often to you, Patrice (your English is very good), but here I feel I should. The word 'implicate' usually has to do with having commited a crime. "He was implicated in the theft of the necklace." So, your sentence has a meaning you did not intend (I hope).

No worries, I always appreciate when someone points me out where my english faults are. I am not on my regular home computer, and do not have my english / french dictionary, and had not time to look for the right word.
I meant "people that will seriously commit themselves in the project", that is, people that will take it seriously, take a lot of time to do it consistently and efficiently, take a lot of time to report in a detailed maner the result, etc...

It is funny, because in French, it is the word "Commit" (that exists also in French, written "commettre") that is heavily linked to crimes. We say in France "Il a commis un crime". The other word, "Implicate" (in French impliquer) is related to people who invest themelves in projects.

In English commit has several meanings: (1) to commit a crime or (2) to commit to a task/project/belief or (3) to commit a person to a mental institution (e.g., "he was committed to Bellevue Sanitorium" ... by his relatives who wanted to take all his money?). The 3rd meaning is well known by rarely used. The first 2 meanings are about equal in strength.

Hello,

I've been on the list of Beta testers, but when I subscribed, I was unemployed. I found a job a short time after, and had no time since to be active in this forum.
I'm very sorry, but I'll have not enough time to take part in these tests.

I'll read your advancements, and buy the game when released.

Regards

Alain

Yes, I have been one of those shy people who has not posted much, and I am still very interested in being a beta tester. Over the summer I was not checking the forums much, because my summer job.  I was out on trail for a week at a time, but when I had internet MWIF was about the same priority as checking my email. Now that I'm back in college, I have plenty of time to help.

I am still interested. Even though I don't post a lot, I do check the forums almost every day and look for anything new, etc. I've never been a beta tester and am a novice WiFer, but have a passion for the game. (I built the vassal module for this game, if that counts.) Not sure if that's what you're looking for, but I am available.

It does. You're now on the short list. Nothing guaranteed though.

BTW for the other readers this is EXACTLY the kind of way to distinguish yourself noticed in the testing community. Another example is Patrice's WiF website. How could we not include him? So ask yourself, how can I make stand out from the fifty other people who want to be in the test team? You don't have to be a rules guru - I'm certainly not.

PS: Thanks for your post Alain. I appreciate the struggle to find the time to test MWiF. It's wise to consider that aspect before volunteering.

I could commit to a couple of hours a day for the next 2 months.

I have only played WiF a couple of times and had to play it solo. I can say I loved it and even had magnetic holders for the counters and put the maps up on my wall and played for months at a time. I loved the potential that the game offered and if the computer version can come anywhere close to the feel of the original it will be a hit.

Quite frankly I'm not a grognard and check the forums everyday just to scope out the graphics and have not got into any of the play issues. That could be a plus because I would bring a fresh set of eyes to the project.

I have designed a 31 mission IL2 campaign for America's Ace of Ace's Dick Bong that has been fairly popular in the IL2 community. 1200 downloads last I looked. I do know the satisfaction of completing a project and the pleasure of seeing others enjoy your work.

So if you need a rookies view point yet one who has played many a cardboard and paper game and dozens of computer simulations let me know. I'll very happy to help out.

I lurk around all the time. I bring things up when theres something that I can offer help on.

Anyways, while I'm interested in getting into the beta-testers group, how about a moderated thread that discusses the state of the beta? Or is there a hidden forum for discussing issues and challenges that come up? I'd be interested in the discussions...

Some things have to be experienced rather than thought of logically to make insightful comments, so often I have little to offer to the developers. I must say Steve is doing better project updates than many many developers I've worked with in the past. All of us on this forum care about the progress in the game, and have vested interest in helping as much as we can. We want to play [;)]

Kudos to the chosen few!

I'm on the list, but I will cede my place. I am testing 2 other Matrix titles, trying to do artwork for CSO, and being worked to death in RL.

I must say, though- this game is looking amazing. I will be purchasing as soon as released.

Yes there is a seperate discussion group for testers but it is incredibly boring... seriously!

TESTER1: "I've found a big problem when clicking on panzer units. My screen freezes."
TESTER2: "Same here!"
TESTER3: "No problem here. I can click all units with no problem."
TESTER4: "What O/S are you running?"
TESTER1: "WinXP Home. It's all in the tester config list."
TESTER3: "Anyone else get this problem?"
TESTERS 5-20: "No" "No" "Nup" "Nyet" "No" "Nein" etc. etc.
TESTER2: "I rebooted and it works for me now."
TESTER1: "I rebooted but the problem is still there."
TESTER7: "Try a different Panzer unit."
TESTER9: "How about clicking on a Russian armor unit? What happens?"
TESTER4: "Does it happen with infantry also?"
TESTER2: "Whup! The problems come back."
TESTER1: "I'll write it up and send it to Steve."
...

rinse and repeat with minor variations

I dont post much, like most of the people who have responded [:D], but I'd like to think that on the occasion that I do post I have something useful to say. Alas, college applications have killed any and all free time I have until january. If the position is still open then I would LOVE to be a part of the beta team, but since I doubt that I merely would like to express my frustration at college admissions in the United States.[:@][:@][:@][>:][&:][:@]

You're right.  I don't think the testing thread will be very interesting for those not participating in the beta.  Those who do however...
