so i got my 35% discount and downloaded the game. but in the first cutscene, there are some seriously annoying audio issues. for example it skips and repeats audio bits over and over again. tried turning off audio acceleration, to no avail. sure, it looks great, but at this point i prefer the original and it's relative stability.

cool.

it's in the very beginning, when the shuttle is coming in and there is communication between the carrier and the shuttle. frankly i haven't gone any further than that since i was a bit put off. i want to be able to enjoy the whole experience of this game, particularly since it is mostly a makeover of the original.

In 3.9 and through to 4.5 I would get severe audio stutters after a lengthy period of play. Having larger higher quality ogg files made it worse and easier to induce.

I had sound problems with 4.5, and found out that if you run dxdiag from the run option in windows start menu and just leaving the program stopped the repeats and reduced the number of skips - though not eliminated. In TGS the sound system seems to be better, as I dont run dxdiag for this. There are occasional skips in sound, say when im afterburning towards an enemy, and having dxdiag open doesnt do anything for me on this.

well, after uninstalling and reinstalling about 3 times, it now works pretty well (i.e very little audio 'hiccuping').

and let me say, the audio confirmation of orders is a very nice touch and adds to the playability of this game. now if i could only remember how i took out the minefields in the original game...
