Thats good news, Tony. The server saw heavy use the last time it was running, and hopefully we'll see lots of players back "playing the d*mned game". [:D]

Right on!
First night back with the new server and we were able to help bring on a new player. Welcome aboard, Cpt. Aubrey.
We took the
PlayersDB scenario,
Power Sweep, by David Steinmeyer out for a spin to break him in. Jim used some interesting "bait and switch" tactics and we managed to exchange fire resulting in his loss of SSN Spartan before the game crashed us out. Oh, well. [:)]
Hope to see you around soon enough, Capt Aubrey. [8D]

Thanks Tony for providing the server for the battle between Herman and I. I purchased and played Harpoon on a new 20mB HD Mac back in the early 90's and dreamt of the day that I could play against another human. It came to be last night and was delighted when Herman sent his subs against my subs.
Hopefully some day we'll all get to experience head-to-head play that is seamless, secure and stable. Even if that means bringing fees into the equation for a stable environment.
Thank you very much, Tony, for the sever time.
Capt. Aubrey

Hey, and a hearty welcome back to Steve (a.k.a. Choowee) [:)]
He dropped into the HarpGamer IRC chat room and we got a game going right away. We played Freek Scheper's
Katyusha Hunt from his latest battleset, The Second Lebanese War, made with the
PlayersDB.
I played the Israelis against his Iranians.
With nearly the entire region lined up against me, I had to employ stealth in order to reach my targets. I approached the Iranian border at low altitude and decided to try and fly between two radar sites. I had my AEW to give me a good aerial picture of the situation. The ingress seemed okay and I thought myself pretty smart for remaining undetected. However, I had been spotted and interceptors were on their way!
Fortunately, my aircraft weren't designated FIGHTER-bombers for nothing. They beat off eight interceptors with Sparrow and AMRAAM salvoes before continuing on to destroy the facilities surrounding Tehran and the nuclear testing plant.
A great scenario. Thanks, Freek. And thanks to Tony and HarpGamer for kindly hosting the ANW server. [8D]

A big "Welcome Aboard" goes out to the newest commander in the ANW Fleet, Capt. Fred from Down Under.
Fred signed in and we played nearly 6 glorious hours. We started off with the tried and true staple of the
PlayersDB, Dave Steinmeyer's
Power Sweep scenario three times as an introduction. In his very first battle, Fred soon found himself with a lone SSK Kobben and up against a Victor II, Tango, and Charlie. Through dogged determination and deft handling, he managed to eke out a draw! We killed one another with our final salvo of torpedoes. Fred is certainly a commander to be reckoned with!
We then moved on to Dave's other scenario classic,
Lone Wolf (also made with the
PlayersDB). Even though we suffered numerous server-related crashes, we still had a good time.
Thanks to Dave for the scenario, Fred for the competition, and Tony for the server. A great way to spend a Friday night (Saturday afternoon in Aus).

Yes, a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon for me (early morning for Herman). I yet have to learn a few more tricks of the trade but can see that with expert assistance and offcourse a few little surprises [:D], I can see that I will enjoy the challenges and the online companionship for quite some time.
Thanks Herman for the challenges, Dave for the scenario and Tony for letting us utilize his server.

There is no finer indicator of devotion towards this game than a man who is willing to rise at 0600 on a Sunday morning to play it. [:D]

It was truly and international event, today, on HarpGamer's ANW server. XXup/Adrian dropped in from Australia, Capt. Aubrey from the USA, Freek Schepers from Holland, and myself from Canada got together for a bunch of games and had an interesting time.
We tried Dave Steinmeyer's classic
Lone Wolf scenario (made with the
PlayersDB) before moving on to Freek's own, "
Suomenlinna" from his
21st Century Ocean Wars battleset (also made with the
PlayersDB). We even coaxed the old fox, Freek, to play XXup 1:1 as Finland in Suomenlinna.
Thanks to Dave and Freek for their scenarios and to Tony for the use of the ANW server.

Oh, well, better late than never! [:D]
Capt.Fred dropped by and could not resist the temptation to do battle. We took Dave Steinmeyer's "
Incoming Mail" scenario, made with the
PlayersDB, out for a spin with me commanding the NATO convoy and Fred taking the Soviets.
Fred got off to a great start when his Charlie II unleashed a salvo of SS-N-9 Siren SSMs against my ASW screen and blew Ambuscade clear out of the water. Retribution was not far at hand. She was quickly swamped by a swarm of helicopters and nailed with a Mk46 torpedo. Soviet Naval Aviation then paid a visit and claimed one merchant, but discovered the location of my convoy. At this point, we decided to break and return to it at another time. Hopefully, by then, Fred will have totally forgotten where he found my convoy.... [;)]
Thanks for a fine scenario, Dave, and thanks to Tony for the use of the server. [8D]

Captain Aubrey and I met in battle, yet again. [:)]
This time, we followed Freek Scheper's lead and tried out his
Suomenlinna scenario made with the
PlayersDB. Jim played the valiant Finns while I took the Soviet Red Army.
Unfortunately, due to the Missile Tracking bug, we ended up wiping out much of the Neutral shipping in the Gulf of Finland! Oh, well, I guess it is expected when you find yourself in a war zone....[:D]
Thanks to Freek for the scenario and HarpGamer for the server. Good game, Jim. [8D]

This time, we welcomed Brandon to the world of Harpoon3 Multi-player. We tried out Dave Steinmeyers's
Power Sweep scenario made with the
PlayersDB.
For his first MP encounter, Brandon played well. In the first round, he revealed himself early and paid the price. However, he learned quickly. We decided to play again and he got very close indeed by using all of his stealthy advantage and not firing until he saw the 'whites of my eyes'. [:D]
Thanks to Dave for the scenario and HarpGamer for the server. Good games, Brandon. [8D]

Brandon showed up for a match tonight. We decided to do a bit if ASW, Sub vs. Ship, so we selected Dave Steinmeyers's
Lone Wolf scenario made with the
PlayersDB.
I took NATO and tried to penetrate his ASW patrols and promptly got my head handed to me. Twice! [:D]
We then switched sides and I took the Russians to act as the hunter. Turned out that I was the hunted, again. The first sign of a submarine in the area was the sound of a torpedo detonating under the keel of my corvette! Then another one blew up, only to be followed by the destruction of a frigate. Brandon was quickly devouring my entire flotilla.
Thankfully, a Mi-14 Haze arrived on the scene and quickly dipped her sonar right atop his sub. A torpedo soon followed. Even though the torpedo killed his sub, his last volley of torpedoes managed to claim one more victim. [:(]
Thanks for a great game, Brandon. Fantastic scenario, Dave, and thanks to HarpGamer for the server. [8D]

Well, it was unexpected (somewhat) but the machine has died at least temporarily. No power on and burst capacitors just begin to tell of the woes. Anyway, there should be a server back up again in a day or two.
And it needs more action, get out of play people
