Scenario Editor Call to Arms...

I believe that anyway you cut it, a scenario editor would add greatly to the game.

One that is flexible, stable, one with which you can change national incomes, manpower values, provence ownership & status, counter appearance, turn length (and overtime), and fortification values. Perhaps even with a few optional rules that players could select from for each game (like the ones in the 1792 scenario).

I, for one, would be willing to pay an additional $30 for a DAMNED good editor, with which players could come up with all these permutations and combinations of scenarios and post them somewhere. Because it would turn this one game into MANY. And THAT is why I would pay $30 for it. For $30 I would LOVE to have an event editor in it, much like TOAW (The Operational Art of War), in which one could actually program events which would occur if certain things happened.

It would be the ultimate strategic boardgame for conflicts from 1700s to 1870s or so. A tool anyone could use to game their favorite era.

The wargaming community NEEDS this. I consider it my duty to support this cause, and, as I said, PROMISE my purchase if it comes to that.

Am I alone on this? Marshall Ellis said elsewhere, that following the release, the squeaky wheel will get the grease. Well guys...LETS SQUEAK!!!! I would like everyone who supports this--or has a thought on it--to post some kind of response. Matrix needs to know we are serious about this. I do not believe we will get another chance like this soon! And you all know it!

P.S. In my opinion, release EIA "as is" by Christmas, and sell the ADVANCED, high quality editor as a...say $25 add on early next year (perhaps with a few optional rules players would suggest in this forum). In EIA you have a WINNING product here with a huge following. An editor (perhaps with 1792, 1812, 1813, Great Northern War, Spanish War of Succession, and Frederick the Great scenarios) to be sold as an add on is a cash cow and sure bet. Hell, call it, "Europe at War (based on the EIA Engine)". Matrix has invested a TON of energy and time into an engine which does a GOOD job at blackpowder strategic warfare. Do something with it! Matrix shouldn't feel bad about this, it is done all of the time. TOAW made its money with add ons. And the gaming community has to understand that Matrix needs to cover its costs AND make a small profit while they are at it. I doubt these guys are living in ocean front mansions!

I agree sell it as an add on later, I would not buy it myself but am sure others would.

SQUEAK!!!!!!!!!!

As I said in another thread, a scenario editor would add tremendous play value and re-playability value to the game.  It would probably bump up it's review rating a whole grade level by PC game reviewers.  While I'm sure this will be a great game, a scenario editor would raise the game's stock to an "editor's choice" pick.  I would like to see it in the original release, but failling that would certainly purchase it as part of a "scenario add on pack" (please don't make me buy the whole game over again, however, that would be milking the cow too far).
