Fighters crashing on landing

I've been playing the game since the release. I've been very happy but there are a couple of bugs that are annoying.

The first is that fighters still like to crash when landing back on the carrier. They crash a lot too, the ratio seems about 1 crash for every three good landings. Does anyone have a workaround for this?

The second is a lockup when attacking enemy carriers with capital ships. This has happened several times. Is anyone else having this problem? Other than this problem the game has been very stable for me and I am enjoying it very much.

Thanks

This crashing problem has been around for quite some time. While it has been mostly worked out, it does still happen. I have found that a 0.2 degree up angle and about 10-30 knots of forward speed tend to almost completely eliminate this. I don't know why it works for me, but it does. I make no claim it will be as effective for you, but you could give it a try.

Just wondering if you were taking about the AI fighters or yourself crashing.

He is talking about the AI dudes. And yes, crashes still happen. I even observed two fighters crashing into each other after takeoff!

IMO the autonav sometimes behaves erratically, causing the fighter to "corkscrew" around the direction of the next waypoint. The same can be observed with the AI fighters. First priority should be to fix that, and THEN check whether the crashes still occur. I'm pretty sure that this is a major contributing factor.

Might be worth getting a "sticky" put up with all the irregularities we find [:D]

My mistake for not being specific earlier. The crashing problems are occuring with the AI fighters.

You know, if this were a game by Derek Smart, he'd responded something like "Our software does not have bugs, you are using it incorrectly." [:D]
I'm faithful that the code guru will put an end to this bug in due time.

I'd love to see the AI anti-collision routines worked on. It's gotten so that I leave my wingman and don't issue an RTB command just so I don't lose the fighters when they try to land.

I've also issued a break-and-attack order and had my wingman crash into me within 2 seconds of issuing the order... I was flying dead straight the whole time. This only happened once tho, not like the landing thing.

Honestly though, the game is so good, I almost don't mind a few bugs.

I love the newtonian physics! Thats the whole reason I bought it... tired of playing I-War, which is the only other game I could find that attempted realistic spaceflight.

Ahh, but it isn't one of Dereks' games. He fixes the bugs that players find. Not that John D won't fix the bugs in SSTGS.

My first impression of this title is: "It was, like so many other titles, shoved out the door a month before it was ready.

Now I have another fourty dollar beta title that will gather dust on a shelf.

Hey Matrix, Any chance of a refund???

Well, my first impression of Universal Combat was: "Is this even beta?"
Also, Derek practically gave up on fixing a fatal ded. server crash. After months of trying to pinpoint the problem, there was no solution. I don't know whether his latest titles have that one fixed, or the "touch-any-vehicle-and-get-teleported-somewhere-else" one. I don't want to pay fullprice for a bugfixed game with a couple more "campaigns".

In contrast, I'm playing through the 3rd campaign in Starshatter now. Bugs? Yes, but nothing that made me stop playing yet.

The 'problem' with Starshatter is that it doesn't seem to have any paid for developers. As far as I know developing SS is not Milo's job (please correct me if I'm wrong), his job is actually something else. So all developing and bugfixing in Starshatter is based on a private level which requires spare time and motivation on Milo's side. DamoclesX I think was hired to do the models for SS:TGS (which he did a great job on!), but he 'only' does the front-end/graphical part.

Please, if anything I stated is wrong, please correct me... I don't like to spread false rumors ;)

Here's a 90% solution to the RTB thing. DON'T ISSUE THE COMMAND. The way the AI works is that once the assigned task is complete (say destroying a captial ship), they will automatically head home. Issuing a recall from the fighter screen is fairly safe as well, but clicking on individual fighters can lead to crash-on-land headaches.

the fighter crashing issue is what made me stop playing the first version.
i stopped playing the new version because it got boring due to aboslutely zero new content.

When player is in command of destroyer or cruiser squadron, he can't issue any orders for fighters. But they crash on carrier anyway!

You are correct in that regard. From what I have seen it is often because the carrier is moving around and even engaging targets. The Orion class is the only one with offensive weaponry and I think the AI captain gets a little gung-ho. Fighters do best when the carrier is stationary or moving slowly in a straight line.

Yea, but I've seen fighters crash landing on stationary carriers, sometimes just plowing through them on some arbitrary path through space. It's really weird to come back from an eventless mission and queuing up to land to hear a bunch of distress calls as the fligth ahead of me crashes on landing.

What do you have the enema AI set on? Rookie I bet.

Try changing it to veteran.
