Where do I begin? I have played a fair number of war/strategy games over the past few years, and I have seen what the future holds in terms of the types of computer games (of all genres) currently slated for release. Many of these newer games are Real Time and they seem to focus more on the "eye candy" 3D aspect and less on the in-depth gameplay.

Up front, I have to say that I like turn-based games - just better for planning strategy. Anyway, I recently started playing the original Steel Panthers games again (and for 5 year-old games) they hold up surprisingly well. They were, and still are, amazing games, especialy when you consider WHAT is modelled in the game. It staggers the imagination: air strikes, artillery, morale, range, LOS, ammo, suppression, and on and on I could go...in addition, there are random battles, campaigns, many nations are included, great sound effects - the list is endless. Who can forget the great opening scenes and music in SP2? Five years later it still plays like a new game.

And many thanks for the extreme labour of love shown by Wild Bill and his Raiders for these games: they have produced an awesome legacy of modpacks, scenarios, campaigns... well, the list is endless again.

These SP games are terrific! I am having a blast playing them - and I can't wait to try out the SP2:WW2 mod, the Vietnam mod as well as the WAW mod. I mean, just think about what is modelled and implemented in these games! Very few modern games can touch them in terms of their scope, breadth, and in-depth gameplay. Choose a period of conflict anywhere between 1939 and 1999 between ANY nation - and you have got one heck of a game system.

Thanks Wild Bill and all you great guys for keeping this series alive. What a labour of love Image

Got to agree totally with that statement. I would trade eye candy for in-dept game play any day. The more in-depth the better. With graphics once you have played a number of game and it gets old. Their is just nothing left to hold a game like that togethere. Your left with a 50 or 60 doller paper waight. I have a number of them.

Von Rom, my friend,

Your words are most encouraging. We are delighted to do this "labor of love" as you so aptly call it.

That is what it is. We love gaming and we love the gaming community. We enjoy contributing in order to make the gaming experience more fun for all of us.

If we have done THAT, then we consider the mission being accomplished. Your words mean a lot to me personally and I know they will to the Raiders and the Beta team. Many thanks!

Wild Bill
