I bought Birth of America before I saw "For Liberty" was being offered by Matrix. So how does it compare to it?

Someone who played both games a lot should give you a more detailed opinion, I will list some of the differences in features.
For Liberty! Birth of America
hex based map province based map
IGO-UGO turns WEGO turns
weekly turns monthly turns
tactical battles battles are automatically resolved

For Liberty! also has a totally different war included the Hungarian uprising against Austria during the War of Spanish succession.

On forums and in reviews both games mostly received praise.

I have both games too and while the moderator pretty much summed it up, I'd add that I think BoA is very pretty. It also has a somewhat expanded scope to the west as well as the French-Indian war scenario's. But I like this game with the option for detailed battles and more flexibility in unit creation.
