Mission End Issues

Finally passed the training missions (landing on the runway was a pain in the arse, took me 4 tries to get it right) and went on to the real campaign (I'm in the demo, btw) and first mission that's a complete sucess (take out a frigate) I have to wait, in the docking bay, for my 3 wingmates to fly 10k units of measure. While I sit and look at a 3rd person view of my ship (which I can still control). OMG annoying. On top of that I managed to make myself crash and cause complete mission FAILURE (0 points).[:@]
It's annoying enough that I have to fly for 3 minutes strait (at top speed) before seeing any action, but to wait around for my wingmates to land....
Has there been an update in that regard that I don't have (because its the demo), or is everybody stuck getting cups of coffee at the end of missions?

There's no need to wait for your turn to land. You can just switch HUD to ILS mode, ignore landing queue completely and fly to hangar.

What comes to long distance travel, you can accelerate time up to 4x speed (shift+Insert and shift+Delete). Even without it idle times are considerably less than in fighter simulations like F-14 Fleet Defender and 1942 Pacific Air War (old games).

By the way, landing to runway on atmosphere can be real pain at first. But once you learn it in one game, you can do it easier in other games. I made first landing with fighter in F-14 Fleet Defender, on aircraft carrier by the way, and it was far from easy. But when I learned it, I learned to land anything in any game I have played.

I was doing that (skipping queue) and I fly into the bay, view changes to 3rd person and.......
Nothing.
Nothing continues to happen until I decide that this isn't worth waiting for and crash myself into the side of the fighter bay.
THEN the mission ends.

Have you radioed in to the carrier to call inbound or final? Simply changing to ILS mode and flying into the bay does not trigger a landing code. This is akin to making an unauthorized landing at an airport. Your ship will "land" but the mission ending requirments haven't been met. BTW you have to call inbound on your way back and then final (once you call inbound, your HUD will auto switch to ILS). This should solve the issue.
