Possible Bug?

When playing COTA against AI, using airstrikes is easy.

1. Click on Airstrike Button
2. Click on target site (airstrikes available number drops one INSTANTLY)
3. Wait.
4. Watch fireworks

However, I played my first online multi tonight. Something had changed. I could click on the Airstrike button, and then on the taget...and often nothing changed. The airstrikes number available would often not change. So I would have to do it like five times. Then it would finally appear to have taken. If I recall correctly, the text in the airstrikes available box would also flash red (could be mistaken on that).

Is this a bug?

Or is this a matter PG is aware of?

Chris,

Were you the host or the joiner?

Was it a case of the airstrike button not updating immediately but still taking effect - ie the airstrike took place? Or in other words could it be that there is a delay between the click and the update of the display?

I was the joiner.

Everything else seemed to be working okay though.

And everything else seemed to be so instantaneous, I was not expecting an airstrike delay of 10 seconds.

Seems it always took effect. Though I will try next time to see.

By the way...GREAT GAME. Multi dramatically surpassed anything I have done so far with AA. It was GREAT.

Chris,

Did the hoster experience delays with his airstrikes?

By delays I mean did his display fail to update immediately once he placed an airstrike?

What I am trying to isolate here is - is it just a case of the display on the joiner's side failing to update immediately. The update I suspect is probably triggered by the event being registered. Theree is a lag between host and joiner and that is probably the cause of this. If this is so, we probably need to force the update directly when the event is created, rather than received.

I was trying to ask him this as well, but he claimed he hadn't received any available airstrikes...it is the Elasson scenario. He was playing allies. Unfortunately, I couldnt find that out either.

I had the same experience. I was the joiner and played with a friend. At the same time we were using Google Talk for voice communication. I also noticed the delay then and asked my opponent to turn up his speakers. I could press 'Air Strike' and hear the bombardment via his speakers via Google Talk long before my airstrike counter was updated.
I had the idea my game was lagging 1 minute or so behind his...
I'm curious if playing via Hamachi would solve this problem...

There is usually a lag of between 1 and 3 game minutes for the joiner. However, the orders get executed in sync by both machines. So it's no big deal. The airstrike display bug appears to be purely a display bug and not a case of the strike not being executed - merely a case of the displayt not updating immediately. We'll fix that in due course.
