Is it just me or are there no flags representing Illinois, Maine, Indiana and a host of other States in the "Choose a Flag" option, yet Pennsylvania, Kentucky and Connecticut are represented? Any reason for this? It's the little details that make this game and so I would like my Brigades to fly the flag of their home state.

The original design was to include state flags for all the states -- then I was surprised to learn that many states did not have state flags at the time. Illinois, for instance, adopted its state flag only in 1915.
It'll be easy for us to add flags. I'll talk with Gil and we'll start a thread where people can post specific flags they'd like to recommend for inclusion via patches.

for me, I want as many flags as we can get in
which I am sure Eric and Gil and Pencil are tired of me asking for more, but if we can get more, lets add them in

Yes, as eric said suprisingly many states did not have flags at the time. So we're being 'historical'. However, we have plenty of room to include lots of flags. Let's just create a thread (this one will do fine, OK Gil?) with all the various flags you all would like.
Just post an image and I'll compile them into the Flags files and distribute them w/ a future patch.
Guidelines about images:
Flags must be at least 80x80 pixels minimum and need be no larger than 400x400. The cleaner and clearer they are, the more likely they are to be included. Text, etc. does not show up very well on the flags, as they are so small. They can be in non-rectangle shapes (pennant, triangle, etc.)
Here's an example of what I mean by 'clean'. Flat image, no waviness = better. Illustrations are better than photos, for this purpose.

Do you want battle flags as well? I know regiments are not represented in the game so I assume not but wanted to check.

We're happy to include any Civil War flags that enough people want, including regimental flags.

Hey Devildog, the USMC primarily served on sea duty and aboard ships during the ACW...there weren't any real field engagements in which the USMC participated, save at First Bull Run--and the Corps' performance there was errrr...less than exemplary. Let's not talk about it.
There really wouldn't be any use for a Marine flag in this game....

if there were Marines aboard the ships, they fought, and there is always room for the Marine Flag

If we can't have an Illinios State Flag, how about one for Chicago? A politician on a field of gold with his hand extended behind him soliciting a bribe would seem most appropriate given the city's colorfull and "shady" past.

Here is a site with Illinois flags used in the ACW.

For any State type in 'Michigan or whatever State i the Civil war' and many good and illustrated sites will pop-up.

How do you put flags into the game? Simply converting the flag over to *.pcx and dropping it into the forge of freedom/gfx/flags directory doesn't appear to work. I've got the size requirements correct but the flag doesn't show up.
Is there more I have to do?
Thanks,
Alanb
