Injuries and Rosters

Post by Brockleigh »

Hey folks...

When I look at the manual, it states that each team has an unlimited number of spots on it's Injured List. I infer that to mean that any player who is Injured is then not included in the Active Players number.

I now direct your attention to the screenshot I have embedded below. You'll note that I have two players Injured. You'll also note that I have 45 players on my 45 man roster. The problem is that when my two players were injured, they were not deducted for my list of Active Players. Moreover, when they're injured, the option on the Player Profile screen does not give me the option to switch them to inactive: the toggle switch is replaced by the nature of his injury. He remains active, and if I have a full roster (which I have), I can't sign a replacement for him.

As it stands, the only option I have to replace these players is to release them and hope that one of the Computer Controlled Teams doesn't snap them up.

Shouldn't the Injured players be automatically removed from the Active Players number?

Yeah, I reported the same thing some time ago... I interpreted it the same way you did. Either it's not what Dave intended or it hasn't risen to the top of his to-do list yet.

Are the players still listed on the active roster, or did the team pick up two free agents?

This may be correct if you started with 3 inactive players. I don't know if that was the case though.

Your active player count should always be 45 of 45 (or whatever your roster max is). Your injuried player list can be any number. Your inactive list should never exceed 5.

An injuried player should be replaced by a player on the inactive list as long as there is one available. If there isn't an inactive player available, a free agent is signed. Once one of the injured players comes back, either that signed free agent is put on the inactive list, or let go off the team.

An active list is a list of players that can be used in a game. So an injured player should not be counted towards your active roster list. And based on your description, that is what is happening.

I'll look into this to see what's going on.

BTW, Isn't that a WLAF Sacramento Surge helmet?

Dave,

I did not sign any free agents to replace the injured players. If I release the injured players, the number of active players drops. I honestly cannot recall how many Inactive players I had on my roster before the injuries took place.

I didn't realize there was an automatic process to dealing with injuries. If a replacement player is automatically signed, would the game use the draft profiles to determine who to sign, or would it be completely random? I'd hate to have a Running Back go down with injury and have the game replace him with someone renowned for his Blocking Avoidance and Kicking Strength skills.

And yes, that is a Sacramento Surge helmet. There were 19 USFL teams, so to round it out to an even 20, I threw in an 'expansion' team and took control of that one. I did start out with the Gold Miners uniforms, but I got a little bored of the Teal, so six games in, I switched to the Surge uniforms. I'm just waiting for the season to end so I can 'officially' change the team's name to the Surge. Plus, the Denver Gold are in my division as well, so it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to have two teams with names so similar (apologies, of course, to Ottawa and Saskatchewan fans).

Incidentally, today will be the USFL Championship: The Sacramento Gold Miners vs. The Boston Breakers.

Not sure about trading but you can create a realistic schedule where you play your division opponents twice. I created one this past weekend... it takes a while but it can be done.

... and you can make trades from the Utilities Screen. It's the Move Player option on the Team Roster screen.

Yes, I'm sure. I made the mistake of letting the PC do my drafting for me at the start of the season, and ended up with four running-backs so slow you could time them in the 40 Yard dash with a calendar.

Boston had a surplus of good backs, so I traded a starting Linebacker and a back-up Offensive Lineman to Boston for Freddie Avenoso, a back-up running back who hadn't gotten in with the Breakers... in 16 games (it's a twenty game USFL season), Avenoso amassed 1500 yards on 253 carries (5.93 YPC) for 19 TDs. Not bad eh? Oh, I'm also giving my second round pick to Boston next season as well.

It's entirely a manual process, based totally on what you think is a fair deal, but yes, you move the players from one team to another using the move players option.

He remains active, and if I have a full roster (which I have), I can't sign a replacement for him.

This is not correct. You can sign a Free Agent or fill the roster with inactive players. Here i provide a screenshot from my testleague. After the season several players retired and i filled the roster with inactive players and free agents. So i have now 45 active (healthy) players on the roster.

[font="Courier New"]Wait that is not a trading feature or utility then, it is instead simply a moving players utility. All based on Fairness, that sucks.[8|]

Sorry, now I am starting to remember we already discussed about this utility, before most recent version, thus I will stop right here (before I waste any more of this threads space).

Lucas718 ,
I know what you mean about making a schedule yourself .Did that for my 1960 league , all afl tams play each other twice , and nfl all west play each other twice then they play each 2 games against east division and vice versa . Several people on here gave great advise on how to set it up . Best part was having access to move teams around to make it look way i wanted . Can`t wait to see end of season to move players about trade and draft . One thing about schedule not looking forward to is cfl league i`m making so far up to 28 teams so that be fun making that schedule out. Maybe i`ll draw names out of hat ,lol. Trying to make stadiums now for the fantasy teams in that league.
