I downloaded the demo a few weeks ago of this game and it worked just fine.
So..............While shopping I seen the game in a boxed version in a store and purchased it.
Last night I tried to install it. When doing so I click on install from the autorun menu and receive am error regarding irsetup.exe.
Here is the text file :

And to add to my above post sir.......
I get a window that opens with the message:
"Failed self extraction." The window has Irsetup as its title.

Hi Eric,

Hello Mark. When I try installing the EXE file from the CD I get the error :
Error in compressed file-BAD CRC.

This really sounds like a bad CD to me. Is there a chance you can return it to the store and exchange it for another copy? Unfortunately, CD printing errors do happen. As my retail copy works fine, I know it's not a systematic issue, but a one in a thousand or one in ten thousand error.

The only other possibility is some kind of strange interaction between the setup software and something else running on your system. What do you use for anti-virus and do you have any other security-type programs running in the background?

Regards,

- Erik

Do you have virus scanners/security turned off when you try to install?
Are there any scratches on the CD, or grease marks, fingerprints etc.?

Mark and Erik thank you for your assistance. I returned the game to the store I purchased it and obtained another copy. Upon returning home I tried to install it again. Unfortunately I am having the same error as my post above............crc error irsetup.exe.

I have turned off the firewall when trying to install but to no avail. I have checked the disk and it has no scratches on it at all, fingerprints, smudges, etc.

I am completely at wits end:) Do you have any other suggestions?

Thank you.
Eric

:))))))))))
Mark and Erik, I have solved the problem and the game has now installed. I will explain to you and others that may experience this issue how I resolved it.

I worked on this problem for over 8 hours and I was determined to find the solution. After exhausting what I believed to be everything I opened up control panel, system properties, and chose hardware, device manager.

Under the selection for IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers I decided to verify my DVD drive which is on the secondary channel. When I clicked on secondary channel the DVD drive was set for PIO transfer mode. I simply selected to allow BIOS to select the transfer mode whic is now Ultra DMA 2-Ultra 33. I then re-booted.
Got another glass of wine:))))))) (I actually think that drinking this sherry is what resolved the problem sirs).
I then tried to install the game.......and it worked:) it installed perfectly!

I'm looking forward to the re-release of close combat!!!! and Forge of Freedom is interesting. I want to thank you both for your assistance and time and wish you and everyone a Merry Christmas.
Eric

Interesting, I will follow up on this matter. IIRC this once popped up years ago with Uncommon Valor, a customer had a similar problem.

Yes, it can help a lot of issues at times, but sadly we can not recommend it as an instant fix. We have minors here on the forums too [;)][:D]

Enjoy the game now.

Congratulations on the resolution, I can honestly say I wouldn't have even guessed to go there. I'm very glad to hear that it's worked out!
