I thought that the original games surface combat routines worked reasonably well, from an historical perspective, with the IJN firing heaps of torps and getting surprise frequently in early war engagements. There also seemed to be enough "dud" torps around too.
PacWar is a teaser aimed at getting us to but the new " War in the Pacific" but I for one will not be buying if this "Super radar controled USN surface combat fleet of 1941-43" is included.

Hello...
We did not change the surface combat or any combat routines, in the patch. They are the same ones used in the original game release.

The new "War in the Pacific" game uses an entirely new combat system. There is a modifier to the chance of surprise, if one side has better surface-to-surface radar than the other. If a ship has radar, the types of radar it has are listed among the weapons systems. Other factors include the experience of the crew (each has a night battle and day battle experience rating), the leadership capabilities of the ship's captain and the fleet commander skill rating.

That new system sounds real good. I just hope that the early radar (41-42)isn't too powerful for the USN. Remember they did get "butt kicked" several times due to inexperience with the new toy.
Cheers, Brian
