Anyone Else seen this?

It's the Summer of 1862, and suddenly the cost of re-equipping a Brigade from "Improvised Weapons" to "Springfields" (not improved) has jumped to:
78 GUNS....., 13 MONEY....., 5 IRON
I can buy Spencer Carbines for:
40 GUNS....., 5 MONEY....., 2 IRON
Gill? Hard Sarge? Anyone? What the Devil is going on?

Could it be too that you have too many Springfields? I can't remember what it the effects were {I thought it was a dupply issue}, but you can only have so many of one kind of weapon before it hits. I think it was 40 Springfields.

Well, that's at least an explanation..., though since I'm building my own "arms" you would think I could tell them what kind to build. It was the "Standard Arm" of Northern Forces. Guess the Union Army will have a lot of "Spenser Repeaters" Thanks.

Well you cant have very many spensers, something like 5 brigades, they too will jump in cost if you go over. The program actually penalizes you for being able to outfit all yout brigades, it is not possible to upgrade every brigade if you continue to increase the size of the army. Well I mean it will be expensive. You are forced to keep units armed with lesser weapons because of this "feature"

Yeah, the idea behind this is to encourage more weapon variety in the game, and to reflect supply/demand problems in overrelying on a single type of manufacture.

Just think of it as the perils of over-reliance on single-sourcing....."Today's word boys and girls is.....Haliburton"

I believe this is the wrong forum for 21st century politics. In other words, "Don't start nuthin' and there won't be nuthin."

my question here is, Springfields ?
I could see if they player was buying Sharps or Henrys or Withworths, and trying to Arm a Army with nothing but, but Springfields ?
that is the basic model, the jack of all trades
but I will say, if want my Cav Armmed with Sharps and I can buy them, I am going to buy them, even if the price starts to climb (it just may take me awhile to do so)

Point taken...truth be told, it wasn't meant to be "political" (as in pro-or anti-Iraq) so much as a general observation that single-sourcing, esp. with defense contractors, tends to lead to inflated costs.
That being said, I apologize for and retract the remark.......

Fair enough.

That was my thinking as well. Does anyone know if the "allowable number" of a type of firearm goes up as the war continues? I could see something being in "short supply" in 1862, but wouldn't more be available in 1863?

For what it is worth if you purchase multiple Spencers( or 24lb Howitzers, ETC.) before the turn is over the price won't go up until next turn. So build up 4 spencers(out of the 5 allowed) then save up your resources then purchase say.. six more all at once giving ten total. Not sure if thats a 'cheat' or not.[:D]

Don't know about a "cheat"..., but it certainly comes under the heading of "massaging the system"... Good idea though, if this is what we are stuck with.
