Conceding Safeties

It's a common bit of strategy in Canadian football, where if you're in a punting situation inside your own 10-yard line and you're up by more than just a couple points, to concede a safety on third down and kick the ball away from farther downfield without pressure.

Unfortunately, the Punter doesn't have a logic option to Kill Clock and take a knee. I've tried having him run out the back of the endzone but he just turns back around and runs downfield.

Is this something that could be added?

Brock,

While this situation is rare, it does occur.  If I wanted to run a play like that, I'd just have the punter use the [Wait for] logic repeatedly for 1.5 seconds.

In the Canadian game it's pretty common. Giving up points for the sake of better field position.

I'll see if I can get something for this in one of the next builds.

Sorry, I was referring to the American game, where it is known, but doesn't happen to often; and was in no means a slight on Brock's knowledge.  I just offered my "fix" to the problem.

Hey dreamtheatervt,

No offense taken... but in response to your possible solution, I don't want to have my punter get creamed by somebody as in the leagues I've run thus far, injuries to kickers and punters aren't uncommon.

Rather than work on an issue with a work-around alreay available don't you think Dave spending more time toward late game clock management is a better use of his time?

I would think that giving the punter the Kill Clock logic would be pretty easy.

I do think the name should be changed to Kneel Down logic, but that is a different matter.

No, I don't.

What I think is that this is a forum for bringing up ideas to enhance the game. I brought up something that occured to me and something that I encountered from a strategy viewpoint. Whenever Dave decides to pop this into the game is up to him, and not for us to decide for him what's more important.

Besides the work-around doesn't really work without risk of injury, which is the entire point of the punter taking a knee.

I am not saying its not a bad idea or its needed, I was just hoping David would give end game play a bigger emphasis. No harm done. Didn't want it to come out as a bash.

Hey Deft,

No worries. My skin is a little thin after all the flame-type posts both recently and in years gone by. I shouldn't have jumped the gun.

Sorry, man.
