How does one get armies to build forts?

Manual says armies can build forts -- doesn't say how. I once got an army to build a fort -- but haven't been able to replicate the feat.

Anyone able to help?

do you have enough resources to do so ? it cost alot

when you how the Container clicked, on the bottom of the screen is Eng obtions (?)

click on that it gives you things you can do

if you have the resouces you can then build a fort and it takes time to get it done

most times it is easier to do it from the city production menu

better is to build fortresses by cities - like Hard Sarge says - forts can take some time and your container will be locked ... better is to let the city build it.

Spruce, I'd disagree with that tactic actually. It is definitely worthwhile to build forts on critical cities but there are several places on the map where you could use a fort as well to help maintain, or cut rail lines.

sure, I agree, but I think Spruce is meaning more it is easier to build them from the City, and you do not lose the flexibly of the Container, if the Container is being used to build one

like Sarge is saying - your container is locked when it's building. If I see the AI building some fortresses - I'm getting nasty ... all the time.

I wait until the AI had build his fortress and then I defeat his container and then the fortress is mine ...

fortresses take quite some time ... and are best build by cities - use your containers to rule the battlefield ...

Container can build a fort and move away, but forts built by containers only have 20% Defense.  Normally this only increases by 5% per turn, which is not that much, and it's much better to have the military group "repair" the fort over several turns to finish it...

I think it is "produce" instead of "build".
