This is a problem that popped up from time to time in the originial Pacwar. I click on a task force screen and on he indiviual ship to see it's data and I get following message "Out of Memory" and the bottom of the screen becomes a mess of colours. In v2.1 it seems to do it with HMS Hermes.

This will happen if you open an air group or a LCU unit loaded on a ship and you do not have sufficient lower DOS memory. 256 MB Ram won't help at all as DOS only uses 640 KB. There have been a number of suggestions on how to solve this problem. Personally I boot native DOS 6.22 without almost any drivers loaded at all (mouse of course and actually also sound although that is not necessary for this program). You of course need DOS and a boot diskette to do this. There also are some suggestions in diverse threads on this subject in this forum. There is no general solution, but you have to experiment to release memory. Start a dosbox and type mem at the command line and check how much free conventional (lower) memory you have

If you check the thread Scrambled Number Font you can see an example of settings that works well on my machine. Be careful to save your original files though in case you need them for another program.
Good luck
