Is this game ever going to get another patch? It has been one of my favorites, but.......

Yeah, there are plans for a major features patch I hear, including a spiffed up naval system w/ detailed naval engagements.

I really hope you're right. I just pulled this off the shelf to play for a few days over the holidays, and after 8 of 23 years, playing Prussia on the full campaign, I'm putting it back on the shelf. The whole game just boils down to declare war or be attacked, march for your enemy's capital, make him surrender and annex as many territories as possible, at least as far as the AI is concerned. Try to play with historic-ish campaigns and treaties, and Europe turns into a dog's breakfast of province ownership with every nation divided into umpteen splotches stretching from Gibraltar to Moscow, while everyone plays the old game of gang-up-on-the-leader.

As far as the ganging up on the leader, the problem is that for the game, it is very clear to everyone who the leader is.  In real life, there are all sorts of reasons why they may not either be perceived as the leader or why you wouldn't want to gang up on them (such as declaring a war you know you'll lose).  The AI fails to recognize when it is in a losing situation and would be pointless to declare war on you which is one of the frustrating aspects of the AI.
