Campaign Opening Moves

I've never played a wargame at this strategic level....i.e. time spans are weeks, months and years, units are armies, etc. Always played at tactical level like Steel Panthers, Combat Mission measured in yards and minutes. To be honest I'm a bit lost at how to get going in the opening moves of the American campaign. Anyone care to share some effective early strategies that have worked for you? any other forum sites that might have something? Thanks!

im still working on the first scenario after the tutorial so not sure what the setup is for the campaign but i know that early on i can't fight redcoats so i withdraw my armies around boston and head towards montreal and quebec. i will also form up a few armies(4 regiments) of militia to run around the south keeping those towns blue. in the early part of 1776 they will push into the mid-atlantic region grabbing towns so i just try and trade with em avoiding fights whenever possible. all while doing this i am training all units not under imminent threat, will need them at 60exp to fight the redcoats. I am currently in April of 1776 and have captured montreal and quebec and i have multiple units in the south and mid-atlantic trading towns with the brits and their Indian allies. it also ties up their units because they like to chase. Pushing my main force back south and heading for boston, wish me luck!!

Thanks cpthowdy. I kept a strong force in the Boston/New England area and found myself getting beat up on by the Brits. Tough going in those early months. I'll try the Canada and Southern strategy and see where it gets me.

I backpedal in New England, picking off detachments.  I bring the Ticonderoga guns East and beat up on some Native Americans in the West. I also train, train, TRAIN!

Road to Yorktown is the best and most balanced campaign in the game. I really suggest this campaign to all new players. This is the best suited for PBEM as well.
