THE WAR STILL ENDING

I started playing a new campaign game this week, Computer Japanese / Human Allies. This is the fourth attempt with all previous attempts having been cut short by the war ending prematurely with the "Withdrawal of Allied Demand for Unconditional Surrender".

This time I got to mid January (turn 6 or so) and low and behold the same thing happens again. Singapore, Bataan, all of DEI except Palembang, Mandalay, Wake Is were all still in my hands. After the initial turn attacks my only naval losses had been a couple of DD's and MCS that didn't make it out of the Phillipines. I got most of my aircraft out of Phillipines to Surabaya and still had large intact armies in Bataan and Singapore. My losses had not been that bad (nor had the Japanese mind you).

And yet again the war ends and I can no longer access the save game file. This has got to be a bug. My previous attempts to raise this don't seem to have got much support. It is reaching the stage for me that I can no longer invest the time in playing the game despite how much I enjoy it. It just isn't worth it when I get cut off mid stream.

Has no one else had this problem????

I read your other posts and have to say its only happened a couple of times to me while I'm playing Japan in mid-late 1943. Are you doing ANYTHING in the beginning of the game?
Moving troops/ships, Abandoning posts to the Japs? I cant imagine if your not losing too many ships or troops why you would get derailed...Maybe someone else has an better answer.
Good Luck

I am trying to fight the fights I can win I guess.

All my ground troops in Phillipines and Malaya have been standing and fighting in order to slow the IJA down. I left the air force in Singapore in place and they have hit a couple of IJN TF's with mixed results. I withdrew the Phillipine air and naval forces where possible and gathered them in Surabaya to make a stand. Now have a major CA/CL/DD TF there backed up by pretty strong air. My plan was to concentrate my strength and fight hard for Java.

I diverted the British 18 Div to Rangoon, but lost that after a major IJA assault lasting 2 weeks. The troops withdrew in an orderly way to Mandalay and are holding there.

Doesn't seem to unreasonable does it?

Then the war ended.......

Andrew,

I'll take a look into this. If a byte of data in the save file is set when the game is over, I may be able to track it down and figure out what's going wrong, maybe even reset it with the editor.

According to the rulebook, the game is not supposed to end unless one side gets twice the total points of the other side. This is obviously not happening here.

If you want, you can e-mail me (tmflood@earthlink.net) the offending save file (make sure you zip it first). It may help me understand the problem better.

Regards,

Rich

Please se my message "Early Surrender Data" a couple of days ago where you will find the status of a crashed game. Major Tom has asked for these data but did not bother yet to answer. I hope he has noticed.
Did you notive when you have saved a "terminated" game you can't load it anymore?
This is definitely a bug in 2.1 which urgently has to be fixed because the bug is fatal (and extremely frustrating).
As a walk around I do a save TWICE a turn (one after giving commands, another after playing iy out). After each save I completely leave the game, start it up again, load from the saved slot, and ONLY when it loads I save in second slot (b). If and when the bug bites, I do reload from slot b. This way I could continue the game which was "shut down" by the bug.
It's still a great game as I believe, and I sincerely hope this flaw will get the attention the game deserves.
Happy Wargaming
