are banks worth the money?

A bank costs $200 plus 10 labor. It yields "1 percent of your money stockpile." I assume your money stockpile refers to the money you have left over at the end of a turn. So, if you have $100 at the end of a turn, you would get $1. Pretty meagre returns, and I am not sure I have ever had that much. (I don't know what you would get on $50 -- 50 cents?)
Maybe late in the game a player has enough money for the 1 percent to be a big return but, if so, you don't really need the extra money at that point. Am I missing something?

the problem is you have to calculate the profits from a reasonable money cash reserve (f.e. 200 gold constantly ?) in relation with the lost profit for not investing. Suppose every 100 dollars yields one dollar a turn - meaning 26 gold a year ... A bank is payed back in 8 years time if you have 200 cash reserve ...
this has to be related to the lost profits from this 200 gold investment ... mints ?
So f.e. if you stay at 200 gold - you'll make a profit after 8 years time ... otherwise if you can make 200 gold extra over 8 years time - with that 200 gold invested - banks are not the right choice.
My next game will be a Union game and I'll be looking forward to yes/no build banks, but at first sight I might be crazy to build banks.

I really haven't been bothered with banks, they don't seem to benefit at all unless you plan to play a 20 year game.

I asked this question in another thread. I was wondering if I was missing something because in my opinion banks are far too expensive to ever be worth it. They are just another worthless request by a governor.

Yeap, but also remember you start with banks, so its not a worthless building just a pain in the butt if a govenor keeps asking for them.
so no there not worth the money to build new, sadly govenors do ask for them, on the bright side at least you get to recoup some of your cash flow loss.

yeah, I noticed Boston alone has 3 of them - this changes the picture on money hoarding for the North ...

..............
And it seems that the governors who ask for banks are the ones who already hate you.

Can someone check to see if banks are working correctly. If I end my turn as the CSA with 250 gold and with 4 banks. On my next turn the nation screen said I will only obtain 5 gold from bank intrest. By my math at 1% per bank I should have got 8 gold since each bank gives out 1% of every 100 gold would be 2 gold from each bank at the least. It seems I am only getting 1/2% gold intrest from banks. Here's a screenshot of the question at hand.

It might be because it's supposed to be 1%/month instead of turn maybe? I don't know, it's the only thing I can think of. 1%/turn by the way is an extraordinairly high interest rate but given the cost of banks, still not high enough.

Check to see if the Union has Counterfeiting. If so this would explain it.

We're only in Jan 82 so I dont believe he has Counterfeiting yet. That's strange that its only 1% a month, every 2 turns when everything else gives you resources on turn.

are you counting what you are suppost to get a turn for money, or are you counting how much money you have at the end of the turn, the bank gives you money based on how much money you have, your snapshot only shows you getting something like 125 gold a turn

No It's counting the money I have right now. I bought a university in one city just to see what happens and my bank intrested dropped to 0. I do belive banks count per month instead of per turn.
