Fighters crashing on landing

Ok, I'm playing training mission 7. Carrier Ops.
Could someone please explain to me why around half of the fighters that have tried to land in my carrier have called out "mayday mayday"? I thought it was a bug, but then I watched one of them and the fighter had exploded when trying to dock.
Erm, that's not supposed to happen right? I know I have issues docking but the AI shouldn't. Especially when the carrier is stationary.
Interstingly enough it seems it's the Stallion fighters that are all dying. The Falcons appear to have landed mostly fine.
Ok, Post mission debriefing: Of 28 launched fighters, 11 (ELEVEN!) reported "collision with" as being their final action.
Note: I had the speed set to 4x.

Usually pilots say that when their fighter is about to blow up. It happens when thay crash on carrier and... Ok, let's cut the fun
Starshatter isn't exactly masterpiece of artificial intelligence. On Starshatter fighters have crashed on carrier since last millennia and so far there hasn't been fix for that. I haven't memorized all fancy tech babble about this issue, but I recall someone said that moving carrier on slow speed reduces crashes.

It'd be nice if someone fixed it. It is a paid for product after all.

Interesting - I was just doing a campaign mission with a destroyer. Three wings of two craft each tried to dock with the Archon (carrier). All three were destroyed in "collision with". Seems a little silly.

Try jumping out of the region whenever fighters are about to dock with the carrier, seems to fix the problem since they enter 'simulation' mode. At least this worked for me in the original Starshatter. Or just delete the RTB waypoint; you can do that even if you're not carrier commander or even the leader of the fighter squadron in question for some reason.

Hmm, not really much of an option, but it sorta makes sense.
A better option would be to use the "auto" functionality for getting to nav points quickly - I assume that is "simulation mode" too.
I'll keep that in mind thanks.

The 'auto' thing might also work, but you have to make sure the fighters are on their RTB waypoint(to make sure they are check the radio chatter, they usually request docking permission) and you need a pretty big distance to auto over so it considers the fighters docked. But usually, if I'm carrier commander I just delete their RTB waypoint and leave the fighters floating in space till I finish the mission, I can't use them anyway during the same mission.
