Poor AI flying

Ok, Assualt mission against a destroyer. I lead a 4 fighter wing. We take out the designated destroyer (ASM's), but there is another destroyer next to it and I'm bored so I order my wing to assault that destroyer too.
10 seconds later I'm the only wing member flying. Turns out the other three wing members had collided with the destroyer! One after the other. They'd expended their ASM's on the first DD so had to use alternate methods.

May I be so bold as to suggest that someone code the fighters to go AROUND the hulking-great-big-not-moving-at-all destroyer? Just an idea. I'd hoped for something a little better in V5.01.
