on ground strike missions, how do we find our targets?
it seems the last few have been just flying about, running out of fuel and never seeing a target

Switching radar to ground mode (GND) might help.

believe it or not, that is the first thing i do
how do you find ground targets?

There are nav points associated with the correct ground targets. If all else fails, turn on your auto-nav once planet-side. That should lead you right to the vicinity. Also, make sure you are checking your nav map. make sure the right sector is displayed. That should also get you going in the right direction.
