What is the quality of this game

I see this is a new game and its type does appeal to me. However looking at the issues that many of you have already encountered I'm wondering if this is another good game thats ruined by quality control or rushed in time for Xmas sales

Is this worth the investment or is going to quickly to into one hell of a frustrating game and end up never used again?

Thanks

It much depends from point of view. By no means game has been rushed, it has been in constant development since last millennia and mostly by one man: John DiCamillo. There are plenty of problems and bugs, like fighters crashing on carrier, but as one game magazine says it:
...made with love
And it really shows and feels!

Head for Starshatter site, download demo and try for yourself. Note: demo's graphics and audio aren't up to date with Starshatter 5: The Gathering Storm, but gameplay and other features should be much the same.

Thanks - The fighters crashing when attempting to reland would frustrate the hell out of me, do you have time to zoom in from the rear and watch them all land.....as seems to be the current solution?

I should add I'm UK based and working away from home (I live in Gloucester but am working in London) using a few spare work minutes to to hunt around.

The demo download I'll do when I'm back home at the weekend

What a way to make a living![:'(]

Inspite of the bugs (and I think I've reported more than anyone for v5 :? ) its still fun to play. Maybe hold off buying till a few are fixed - I doubt the price will go down as games released by smaller publishers generally don't by much.
My biggest gripe isn't a bug at all but a lack of any real coherence in the starship squadron commanding aspect of the game. But if you don't plan on using starships much (fighters kinda guy) that'll mostly be irrelevent to you.

Reported in another thread are fighter flight times of only 3.5 minutes as a result of fuel issues. A fighter with a 1 minute journey and return from intercept and only 1.5 minute enggement seems to me to be very unrealistic....did someone say there are no quality issues???

I don't know if this is worth the investment, it appears very frustrating yet has the basis for a great game?

I can't say that the game is frustrating. Other than the issue with the crashing fighters and the (sometimes) weird AI behaviour I can't tell of any really annoying bug or problem. I think it's a great game and it gets a big plus from me due to its easy modability. You have an issue with a fighter beeing too weak? No problem... change one paramter in a text-file and you're good to go.

Perhaps what I really need to do is just to buy it rather than deliberate. I just don't want to shell out some hard earned cash and be diappointed. I guess at worst if I have some problems you guys can sort me out [:)]

Play demo first and you won't buy pig in the bag [;)]

Ahh just go get it. I reported the fuel problem with the fighters and discovered that it was only a problem with the unpatched version. The reason I was still having it was because I downloaded a bad "unnofficial" patch (wrong filename on the patched exe so it was still running the old exe).

It has a long learning curve but any game with this much potential is going to have that. After figureing most things out and working thru a couple bugs, the game is very addictive and a lot of fun.

This is true, it does take time to get the hang of it. And working around the bugs isnt that difficult. Some of those bugs mentioned, i.e. gamma laser 3 showing as 33, dont really affect play...

Besides, even real life has bugs...when is the last time everything went perfect for anybody...when things go wrong in real life we have two options...

complain and hope it makes it better....

or work around it.

Of course pointing out things that are way out there is important in fixing the worst of the bugs. and I hope everyone remembers that milo is a one man team. Please try to keep that in mind when casting stones about...

May be Milo's employers should give him more time or some helpers. He's clearly been so busy that he's not been here for a month

Splash - There that stone didn't make too much of a splash when I cast it....
