OK, I have tried the 1.009 patch (thanks Joel), and Spain did not activated.
However, I did get a malfunctioning Portugal activates event - it happened before US was in the war. The result was that Portugal is not an ally but the event is marked as occured in the event list. For sure, it is only a minor issue, but an issue nevertheless. I have had this happen with Greece before as well (in the original release).

The AI does not try to take Malta - how about moving one of Londons strategic points to Malta?

Is it possible that you accidentally said no to the question that asks if you want Portugal to enter the war? Exactly what went wrong? As for Greece, there were several problems with the Greek events that were fixed in 1.008, so I'm hoping that any problem you had with Greece has been fixed.

I never got the question to accept/decline Portugal's entry. A (lateral logic laced) hypothesis is that there is bullet proofing to prevent diplomatic (or rather non-"Axis aggression caused") joining of the WA before US is in the war (since after US war, all pro-allies will roll to enter).
As to what went wrong, Portugal is still a neutral, Allied leaning, but the event has occured (black text in the event list).

You're right. Gary just ran some tests and found that the Portugal event was not correctly setting Portugal to join the Allies (it was setting The Low Countries by mistake). He says this has been in the game since version 1.0. We will be making a new exe with this fix. Hopefully I'll have another exe file within a day or two that I can mail out and that can be made available through Matrix next week. Thanks for posting the bug (and for testing out the new 1.009 version).

I'd be up for all these new updates as well. I'm just about to into the game and would really like to play it with the latest fixed stuff. Thanks!
