Star Wars Ship Mod

Greetings all.

I've begun work on a mod project to add Star Wars ships to Starshatter:The Gathering Storm.

So far it's going pretty well, here's a few pictures (links from Photobucket) of the ship models I have built so far, and an (incompletely textured) X-Wing in-game:

Sorry pal, some people are already ahead of you. But if you think you can do better, then go ahead.

I had SW mod going on myself, models ripped off from X-Wing Alliance. My goal was to get it to same intense & short range combat as in official SW space sims (starting from X-Wing). AI wouldn't cooperate with this, so I threw towel.

That's really cool -- It's nice to see people modelling stuff themselves. These guys are also doing a (megalomaniac :P) Star Wars mod: http://www.xwavi.com/

edit for a suggestion: You should release ships one by one as soon as you get them "100%" complete, to avoid falling silent for weeks...

This isn't a competition, this is something I am doing for myself, and for a few friends, fellow former Star Wars Galaxies:Jump To Lightspeed players.

I've been doing 3D modelling now for a few years as a hobby, for me it's a joy to find a mod-friendly game like this and to see a ship model in flight that I built and textured from scratch.

Thanks, I'm having a pretty good time working on this.[:)]

Good suggestion, the X-Wing model is almost ready to go, as I get these done I'll place them up on a filehost somewhere.

Looking nice, got any of them ingame already? I usually can't wait to see my ships in the game, even before the texture is done.

Yeah, you should finish deffing one or two of them -- I guarantee it gives a burst of motivation to see your creations alive [;)][/align]

Think you could put this into the game for me?...its already textured and ready to go ,but when I try to put it in game its backwards and I don't jnow how to get the texture onto it using magic.Basically its a re-vamped viper that I designated as a mk5,I felt that we needed an in between version of the mk2 and mk7...its sleeker than the mk2,whatcha think?Could use the def files for the mk2 that I already have in the game that toshi did for the BSG stuff he's workin on.

Badger -- What format do you have the model in? I could probably correct/texture it if you upload it to senduit.com/wikiupload.com or something.

What program did you build it in, and let me take a guess here: it's in .3DS format?

I use Anim8or for all modeling, and one thing I've found with it is this: anim8or will export models in 3DS format, but then when putting it into a game or Ultimate Unwrap (the texturing program I use), the model appears backwards.

I say "appears backwards" because it's actually more complicated than that - you can rotate the model 180 degrees and it "appears" fixed, but then in Ultimate Unwrap the front and back, top and bottom views are correct, but left and right are still reversed. On a physical object in the real world, this should be an impossibility. It's almost as if the model gets turned inside out or something.

However, turning it 180 degrees at the source will cause it to look right in-game. You may have to take your texture map and flip that as well before importing to Magic and it should line up right.

If your program can export as an .OBJ (wavefront) file, try that instead. You get less weirdness in the translation. However, you may need to download Magic 1 rather than Magic 2 to import it, Magic 2 seems to not import .OBJ files exported from Anim8or. However, if you're using something besides Anim8or, this may not be an issue for you.

I'd also be happy to fix your ship for you (nice looking viper, by the way). Olias7@Ameritech.net if you want to send it over here.

Ok ...heres what we'll do.I'll upload it to olis to fix, with both the above model and original which has it already installed in the game...then he can get the viper 5 sorted out and post it here to download.the original was done by someone else but I don't remember who?Toshiro would know, but I haven't heard from him in a few days(hint hint toshi..hehe)

Sorry about that, if you get a chance mail it again.

The amount of junk mail I get is phenomenal, if I let it go a few days it gets well over a thousand.[:@]

Funny, it told you the box was full, yet I got more junk. I need to get a new address or something. Should work now though.
