Can't start game

Just bought game, installed it, and when trying to play I get two splash screens - matrixgames, and destroyer studios, then black screen then back to desktop. I have powerful enough machine and video card - AMD 64 FX-60, XP PRO, 2 GB ram, 500GB drive, 7900GT video card, 550 watt power supply, directx 9.0c and I installed latest 5.0.1 update and latest Nvidia drivers. I need help getting started. I don't get any error messages just kicked back to desktop. Other games work fine even on highest settings - I play Oblivion, FSX, Far Cry, and many others no issues. Any ideas what I can try or look for?

Just to confirm, is this the original Starshatter you're running or Starshatter: The Gathering Storm?
Could you post a DxDiag file for us per the instructions in this forum please? While your specs sound fine we may be able to spot something if there's a problem.

I got it working - I had to double click on the STARS.exe file in the game directory. The desktop icon was pointing to the autorun file but game wouldn't start that way. I'm playing gathering storm. I guess the update changes the start file to stars.exe so I just made a desktop shortcut to that file.

You should rename "Stars.exe" to "Starshatter-TheGatheringStorm.exe" to get the shortcuts to work correctly after patching to 5.0.1. You can delete the previous version of "Starshatter-TheGatheringStorm.exe" file before renaming.
