Fuel Leak?

First off I have installed the v5.0.1 patch.

I am using the neutonian physics model. As a test, I launched from the carrier on mission 2 of the training scenarieos and cut throttle and drifted. I timed precicely how long the fuel would last with ZERO thrust and ZERO manuvering. The total was 3 minutes and 35 seconds before the tank was empty. Again I did this test at FULL throttle and lots of manuvering and the time was only a few seconds shorter.

Now I understand that power is required to operate systems but any craft with a range of only ~3 minutes (1 and a half if you want to return home) is not a very feasable asset. I cant help but think this is a problem with the game as there simply isnt the time to complete the missions in the time (fuel) alloted.

Are the missions in this game really limited to only 3 or 4 minutes? I would very much like to play the rest of this otherwise great game but right now i find myself being too frusterated to even start it up again. Is there perhaps a mod somewhere to disable/remove the fuel system entirely?

I have Fraps and can make a vid of this fuel bar bleeding down like a sieve if anyone is interested.

Actually, most high speed modern interceptors only get a flight speed of a few minutes with no external tanks, a full weapon load, after a runway takeoff. I'd like to see an option for this game to add on fuel tanks in place of weapons.

3 or 4 mins? Well I did fighter missions at the start (capships now) and I managed a good 20 mins or so before returning to base with fuel remaining.

Yeah its a glitched behavior. That or what I saw this last time I attempted the mission was a glitch. I was able to complete the entire mission on less than a half a tank even using the augmenter generously. Its wierd that the patch could intermittantly fix the error and yet still have it occur like this.

Cmon bryax, try this experimant and see if your game is doing this. Surely you coudlnt believe this is normal behavior. These missions are not do-able with this fuel problem like this, reguardless of whatever "fuel saving god" complex youve developed.

Maybe this should be moved to the bugs section?

Actually, I've never had this problem at all with fuel. I've never had a fighter run out of fuel, and I sure as hell aint a fuel saving god. This was before I had the patch too.

Then what was the purpose of your participation in this thread?

Just that. Not that I think the fuel makes sense, but maybe it was designed for that.

Wierd.. I discovered the problem. When i ran "Starshatter-TheGatheringStorm.exe", the game reported to be at version 5.0 but when I ran stars.exe, the game reported correctly as 5.01. Also running stars.exe solves the fuel consumption problem completely. Maybe the patch I downloaded was a little off. Oh well!

Stars.exe is the patched version. For some reason they couldn't do a "proper" patch it seems (all your shortcuts still point to the unpatched version after all).

You should rename "Stars.exe" to "Starshatter-TheGatheringStorm.exe" to get the shortcuts to work correctly after patching to 5.0.1. You can delete the previous version of "Starshatter-TheGatheringStorm.exe" file before renaming.

I just retargeted the shortcut to stars.exe. Im always a little hesitant to delete/rename an applications files expecially once ive talked it into working [;)]

This problem occurred with the patch that was "pre released" by the developer. That was not the official patch.

The problem does not occur with official patch that can be downloaded from our website:
